3. Your Camera Companion: Answers & Insights

Which mode should I choose for shooting in low light conditions?

We recommend shooting in 5.7K for low-light conditions. After exporting through the Insta360 app or Insta360 Studio, you should see a significant reduction in noise.

In low-light conditions, the camera sensor needs to increase its sensitivity (ISO) to ensure adequate brightness in the image, which leads to more noise and a grainier picture. Compared to other modes, the 8K setting has a higher resolution with more pixels, which means each pixel has a smaller light-sensitive area, and therefore requires more light intake. So 5.7K works better in low-light conditions.

How did the X4 performance in night scenes compare to the X3?

The night shooting performance of X4 has been enhanced with the new 5nm AI chip, which improves image data processing capabilities. When set to 5.7K30 resolution, X4's image quality surpasses that of X3 in terms of clarity, contrast, dynamic range, and color reproduction. In low-light conditions, we recommend shooting in 5.7K resolution. After exporting through the Insta360 app or Insta360 Studio, you should see a significant reduction in noise.

How to avoid stitching issues when using X4 shooting at the bottom of the camera/close-up shooting?

Since panoramic videos are created by stitching together images from two lenses, there will always be a certain amount of blind spots when it comes to objects that are too close to the camera. This is a common situation with 360° cams.

Please try the following steps for better stitching results:

1. Use the camera with an Insta360 Invisible Selfie Stick. This can reduce obstruction caused by the camera body.

2. Ensure that the object being captured is at least 0.8 meters (2.6 feet) away from the camera lenses during shooting.

3. Try to keep one of the lenses facing the subject during recording.

4. Within the Insta360 app or Insta360 Studio, for the clips you have shot, try switching between the "Optical Flow Stitching" and "AI Stitching" algorithms before export to see which result looks best.

How to ensure a smooth firmware update process?

To avoid firmware update issues, please make sure to turn off the camera's "auto power off" and "auto sleep" functions. Ensure that both your mobile phone and camera have sufficient power during the update process (do not remove the battery). Also, make sure that your phone screen stays active (not locked) and the camera is not recording during the update.

Is X4 waterproof?

X4 is IPX8 waterproof to 33ft (10m). Use the Invisible Dive Case to take X4 up to 164ft (50m) underwater.

To ensure your camera remains waterproof:

a. Ensure the battery cover, USB cover, and the battery's rubber seal are intact and free of sand, dust, and debris. Fully close the battery and USB cover, making sure that the orange indicator marks are not visible. You should hear a click when the battery and USB cover are closed. If necessary, clean with a soft, dust-free cloth.

b. After using X4 in water, rinse the surface with clean tap water and soak the camera in fresh water for 5-10 minutes. Then dry your camera with a soft cloth and let it fully air-dry in a well-ventilated area. Make sure your camera is clean and dry before opening the battery cover or USB cover.

Can the X4 be used for underwater shooting without a dive case?

X4 camera is waterproof up to 10 meters without a dive case. But due to underwater light refraction on the domed lenses, a dive case is required for underwater shooting with X4. For the best experience, we recommend our Invisible Dive Case for capturing photos or videos underwater.

Will there be stitching issues when using the Invisible Dive Case with X4?

Our stitching algorithm has been optimized to work with the X4 Invisible Dive Case. For best results, make sure you have the latest version of our app. When using the dive case, turn on Dive Case mode from the camera menu.

How to storage the Invisible Dive Case?

The X4 Invisible Dive Case should be stored with care. We recommend using a storage bag or wrapping it soft material to prevent it from being damaged.

Additionally, if the dive case surface becomes dirty or comes in contact with sand, please rinse it clean with water first. Do not wipe it directly with a cloth to avoid scratches.

What is the difference between a Premium Lens Guard and a Standard Lens Guard?

Standard Lens Guards are included in the box with X4 and are perfect for protection from dust, scratches, and everyday use. Premium Lens Guards are sold separately for those who take safety seriously, made of tough, tempered glass, scratch-resistant, and designed to preserve image quality.

How to achieve better stitching results while wearing Lens Guards?

If you've installed Lens Guards on your X4, make sure to enable Lens Guards mode by swiping down from the top of the camera's touchscreen. Choose the corresponding mode according to which type of lens guards are installed. If you enable the "Auto" setting, the camera will automatically detect which lens guards are installed. We recommend "Auto" if you plan to frequently install and remove lens guards from your X4.

Will wearing a lens protector affect the picture quality?

Installing Lens Guards can effectively prevent bumps and scratches from daily use, with some effect on image quality. You may notice glare, especially in bright environments. For the best image quality, when not shooting in a rugged environment, we recommend using the camera without lens guards.

Will the X4 Lens Guard prevent scratches?

X4 Lens Guards are designed to reduce lens scratches during daily use. In a high impact scenario, it is still possible for damage to occur. For maximum scratch resistance, we recommend our Premium Lens Guards.

What causes glare in footage?

Glare issues in your footage may be caused by dirt or fingerprints on the lens or lens guard. We recommend cleaning the inside and outside of the lens and/or lens guard with a soft cloth before shooting.

At the same time, as X4's 360° lenses are spherical in structure, glare may occur at a certain angle with the sun or strong light source. Please rest assured that this is a normal optical phenomenon. To reduce the impact of glare, we recommend that you avoid direct exposure of the lens to bright light while shooting.

How is X4's heat dissipation?

X4 offers improved heat dissipation due to our extensive investment in research and development. Still, action cams, like other electronic devices, will generate heat during use because of the compact size and complex electronic systems present. For maximum heat dissipation, we recommend using X4 in a well-ventilated area or while on the move. For prolonged shooting in 8K, consider trying out the Thermo Grip Cover.

What power adapter spec does X4 support?

We recommend using a 5V/3A power adapter. X4 also supports 9V/2A power adapters with PD (Power Delivery) protocol.
