A wine cellar is usually defined as a room whereby wine racks or bins are located on all or most of the walls. Many people refer to their wine fridge as a cellar. If this is the case for you, it is best to utilize the buildout flows we have created for a wine fridge.

For Wine Cellars, it is also very important to define the various sections in your cellar. A section is usually thought of as an area the pattern of bottles is the same. E.g., You may have a wall with a rack system on the top that is 10 rows, 10 columns and 3 deep. On the lower half of the wall, you many have racks that are 10 rows, 7 columns and 2 deep. In between, you may have some bins. In this scenario, the one wall has 3 separate sections and should be built out like that.

1. Creating Cellar using the Web App

To create your Cellar on the web app you first need to choose the VinLocate tab on left sided menu bar. At the top right, there is a box labelled Add Cellar / Fridge that you will next click on. A model will then appear that asks you to first name the Cellar (e.g. My Home Cellar) and then choose the first radio button for Cellar. On the main page view, you can then see that the cellar has been created but has yet to have any Sections defined.

Next, click on + CREATE SECTION. Here again, you will be asked to give it a name (e.g., Left Wall). Then hit continue. Next, you will choose if you are building out Rack (each bottle has a single location) or a Bin (multiple bottles are placed in one container). For the purposes of this help documents, we will choose Racks.

Next, you will choose the Rack type. You will be presented with several choices including Grid, Lattice, Horizontal wall mount, Flat Wall mounted, Vertical Shelves, Horizontal Shelves, Flat Shelves, Tilted Shelves or individually displayed bottles. As an example, we will choose Horizontal Wall mounted.

You will next notice that you will have to define how many bottles you have in a column, how many in each row and how many deep. You should choose the number of slots available in the section and not how many bottles you can fit. You can alter this later.

Next choose the orientation (cork direction) of the bottles. Does the cork face Left or Right? Then click on CREATE.

Now you can see your bottles in the section. Note, none of the spots are populated with your wine yet. The bottles are defined by a default origin system that can be modified. In most cases, the default is R1 is on the bottom. The columns run from left to right. You can see these configurations by clicking on the Row / Column view at the bottom right. However, this coordinate system can be changed by clicking on the gear icon at the top right of the screen. Here you can choose of four different choices for where the origin point should be configured from. In other words, does your numbering system start from the Bottom Left, Bottom Right, Top Left or Top Right? Choose the option that most accurately describes your situation.

If you need to modify the number of bottles (e.g., The top row holds 9 and the remained hold 10), you can choose the edit button (3 vertical dots in top right) to Modify the configuration. When the modal appears, instead of adjusting the Columns, Rows or Depth, go to the bottom and choose “Customize more by Removing Slots”. Once selected, you can click on a bottle to hide the entire depth of the column. Go “Back” (top left) when you have deselected one or more bottles. Then press Done. You will now see that the bottle you have deselected is transparent. Press next and if all is correct, Save. You will now see that Section created.

2. Creating Cellar using the Mobile App

To create your Cellar on the mobile app you first need to choose the VinLocate tab from the bottom right menu. Once done, choose the plus “+” button at the top right. Click on Cellar / Fridge. Give your Cellar a name (e.g. My Home Cellar) and then choose the first text box that says Cellar. Then click on Save. Here again, you will be asked to give it a name (e.g., Left Wall). Then hit continue. Next, you will choose if you are building out Rack (each bottle has a single location) or a Bin (multiple bottles are placed in one container). For the purposes of this help documents, we will choose Racks.

You will be presented with several choices including Flat, Lattice, Horizontal, Vertical and Tilted and Bins. Choose the best configuration that most closely resembles your shelf and then click on gold choose button. For the purposes of this help documents, we will choose Flat.

Next, choose the direction that the cork is facing (front, back or alternating pattern). Next choose how many bottles across (width), how many high (Height) and if need, how many deep (Depth).

Next, you could modify the layout if the pattern now selected does not exactly match your bottle layout. When you edit a section (select the 3 vertical dots), you can then select to Modify. Once there, then select to Customize Layout whereby you can change the direction of individual bottles or remove slots. When you select to custom layout, the entire section will first be shown to you so that you can choose the slots to remove. This is helpful when a few slots are blocked by some other object (e.g., A/C unit).
