How are market values determined?

Each night, we retrieve data from Liv-Ex, Wine Searcher and Wine Market Journal to populate the market data field. We also pull from user reported data. That said, despite these services, some wines remain without values.

The reason behind this is primarily because the above data sources do not yet have established market values to pass on. As market values are essential for calculating your cellar or fridge worth, if a market value is not able to be retried, the purchase price you paid for the wine will act as a temporary place holder. If you haven’t been entering your purchase price, the field will remain empty until we can acquire the data.

When it comes to calculating the total value of your collection, we do not skip over these wines without price data. Instead we will use the average price of a wine in your collection.

Any values from deliveries / transit list are not included in the calculation.

We do allow you to edit the market field and input a value that will help provide an accurate representation of the wine’s worth.

How to update the price of a wine:

Update the price directly on the app. Once the wine is in your collection, there will be a gold pencil icon next to Avg Price. Select this and input the price you would like. Your custom price should be reflected in your total market value calculation.

Once saved, the font color will appear gold to indicate a manually input price.

Why is my market value fluctuating?

Most commonly this happens from removing high value bottles from your collection. It can also occur if there are any fluctuations in the local currency being used.
