A channel represents a tracking rule based on which a tracking number will be displayed on your website. For example, if you want to display a tracking number on your site only for traffic from a newsletter, you will need to create a new tracking channel following the steps below.
The steps described below will also help you edit an existing channel.
To add or edit a Channel, go to Setup -» Channel
To edit an existing Channel, click on List, and then on the name of the Channel
To create a new Channel, click on “Add new”
Regardless of which option you choose, the window will contain the same fields:
Active / Inactive: to activate or deactivate the Channel
Name: the name of the channel
Description: a short description to remind you or other users who have access to the account what this channel represents.
Landing Page: the tracking numbers allocated to this channel will be displayed only for sessions that contain one or more UTM parameters or any other URL parameters added in this field (e.g., ?ref=ps or utm_source=Google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_content=Search, etc.)
Referring URL: the tracking numbers allocated to this channel will be displayed only for sessions that have the referrer domain added here (e.g., google, facebook, linkedin, etc.)
Priority: add numbers (1-999) to reflect the priority order of each channel (where 1 is the most important and 999 is the least important)
Google Event Source: add the source for which you want to send the calls to GA4 (e.g., google, facebook, linkedin, newsletter, etc.)
Google Event Medium: add the medium for which you want to send the calls to GA4 (e.g., cpc, banner, email, etc.)
Charts Color: use the HEX color code
Landing Page and Referrer Relation: choose if you want the tracking numbers allocated to this channel to be displayed only for one of the above rules or for both.*
Match one of them: both conditions must be met for the tracking numbers to be displayed for this channel
Match both: only one of the conditions must be met for the tracking numbers to be displayed for this channel (both fields can be filled, but the numbers will be displayed only when one of them is met – Landing Page or Referring URL)
This channel belongs to selected Accounts: you can select one or more accounts that will have access to this channel.
UPDATE CHANNEL
Following the same steps as above, you can also edit/modify a channel.
*For example, to measure calls received from an article published on newsdomain.com with a link to your site, we will set it as follows:
Landing Page:
utm_source=domeniu.com_affiliate_CLH&utm_medium=profitshare&utm_campaign=profitshare_CLH&utm_content=link
Referring URL: newsdomain.com
Now, if we select Match both, the tracking numbers associated with this channel will be displayed only when the Referrer URL is newsdomain.com and the Landing Page url contains these UTM parameters: utm_source=domeniu.com_affiliate_CLH&utm_medium=profitshare&utm_campaign=profitshare_CLH&utm_content=link.
Otherwise, in this case, if someone copies the URL and sends it to someone via whatsapp, email, or chat, the tracking rule will not be met because the referrer will no longer be newsdomain.com, and the tracking numbers allocated to this channel will not be displayed. The same will happen if the UTM parameters do not match the ones set above. For this situation, you need to select the option Match one of them.
