As well as being great fun for the whole family, pools or spas with a counter-current swimming system have advantages in terms of chemical water management.

The advantages of a counter-current system

If you have a counter-current swimming system, activating it can offer several advantages for managing your pool's water quality. Firstly, aerating the water increases the concentration of dissolved oxygen, which is beneficial for maintaining clear water. What's more, oxygenation helps eliminate phosphorus, an essential nutrient for algae, helping to limit their proliferation.

But that's not all! Stirring the water with the counter-current system also helps to reduce alkalinity by promoting the natural degassing of carbon dioxide. This can have a beneficial effect on water balance.

Disadvantages of the counter-current system

It's important to note that water aeration is not without its drawbacks. It consumes both chlorine and energy, which can increase your maintenance costs. As a result, the benefit/cost balance is not always so clear-cut.

There is, however, one exception: when restarting your pool at the beginning of the season. Stirring and aerating the water before starting treatment is an excellent way to get the season off to a good start, improve water quality and prepare your pool for effective disinfection.
