Advanced Settings Overview

Advanced Settings gives you direct access to the low-level configuration of your connected cameras and devices — all from within your Iris Studio, without needing to open the camera's built-in web interface.

Updated over a week ago

The settings you see depend entirely on the make and model of your device. Iris reads each camera's capabilities and dynamically shows only the options your specific hardware supports. So don't be surprised if two different cameras show different tabs and settings — that's by design.

What You'll Need

  • A connected device — Your camera must be added to your Studio and online. Advanced Settings isn't available for devices that are still being set up.

  • The right permissions — You need at least a Producer role in the Studio to make changes.

  • Device powered on — Some actions (like calibration, reboot, and sleep/wake) need the device to be online and awake.

Opening Advanced Settings

There are two ways to get there:

Option 1 — From the source list: Right-click on a connected video source in the left-side source list and select Advanced settings from the context menu.

Option 2 — From the source frame: Hover over an active camera in the viewport and click the settings icon (gear) in the lower right corner of the source frame, next to the source label.

The Advanced Settings panel opens on the right side of your Studio.

What You'll See

Tabs

The panel has a row of tabs across the top. These are generated dynamically based on what your camera supports. The first tab is always Iris Connection. After that, you may see any combination of the following:

Tab

What it controls

Iris Connection

How Iris connects to your device — connection health, video source settings, control settings, and driver info

Video

Video output settings like resolution, format, HDMI output, NDI, RTSP, RTMP, SRT, and more

Audio

Audio input/output, encoding, gain, channels, phantom power, onboard microphones

Control

Camera control features like tally lights, fans, wipers, serial protocols, privacy zones

Network

IP configuration, DHCP, DNS, Wi-Fi, ports, ONVIF settings and authentication

Features

Advanced features like OSD, UAC, ND filtering, multicam mode, genlock, digital extender, PiP

System

Date/time sync, NTP, firmware version, IR settings, video system

If a tab isn't showing, it means your camera doesn't support those settings. That's normal.

Inside the Iris Connection Tab

This tab has its own sub-tabs:

  • Monitoring — Live connection health of your camera.

  • Video — Settings for the video connection bringing your feed into the Studio.

  • Control — Camera control settings, PTZ operations, and command interfaces.

  • Driver — Information about the command driver loaded for your device.

Note for Iris Enabled cameras: If your device is an Iris Enabled camera (embedded Bridge), only the Monitoring sub-tab is available. The Video, Control, and Driver sub-tabs are hidden since the camera handles those connections internally.

Making Changes

Settings appear as dropdowns, toggles, sliders, dials, buttons, and text fields — depending on what the setting is.

Here's the important part: not all changes behave the same way.

  • Some settings apply immediately — The moment you change them, they're sent to the device. Things like simple toggles and sliders often work this way.

  • Other settings are staged — They're held until you click Save Changes at the bottom of the panel. These tend to be riskier settings like IP configuration or protocol changes where you want to be deliberate.

The Footer

When you have unsaved changes, the bottom of the panel shows:

  • Save Changes — Applies your staged changes to the device.

  • Cancel — Discards your unsaved changes.

After saving, the footer switches to:

  • Undo Changes — Reverts what you just saved.

  • Done — Closes the panel.

If you close the panel without saving, any staged changes are discarded. But any settings that already applied immediately (when you toggled or adjusted them) will still be in effect on the device.

Header Actions

At the top of the panel, next to the device name, you'll see action buttons. Which ones appear depends on your device:

  • Delete Source / Unlink Device — Removes the device from your Studio. You'll get a confirmation prompt before anything happens.

  • Calibrate / Recalibrate — Starts or redoes PTZ calibration for your camera. Only shows up for controllable cameras that support it. If calibration is needed, you'll see a warning icon.

  • Reboot — Restarts the device. You'll see a confirmation dialog before it proceeds. The panel closes after the reboot starts.

  • Sleep / Wake Up — Puts the device into standby or wakes it up. There's a brief cooldown (about 10 seconds) after pressing either button to prevent accidentally toggling back and forth.

Things to Know

  • Tabs are device-specific. If you're expecting a tab and it's not there, your camera doesn't support those settings. That's by design.

  • Some settings are conditional. Certain options only appear when a related setting is set to a specific value. For example, some color space options may only show up when a particular output mode is selected.

  • If your device goes offline while the panel is open, the controls become disabled. You can still see the current values, but you can't change anything until the device reconnects.

  • Some changes require a reboot. When that's the case, Iris will show a notification with a "Reboot now" option. You don't need to reboot after every change — only when prompted.

If Settings Seem Missing

If you're not seeing a setting you expected:

  1. Check the tab list — It may be under a different tab than you'd expect.

  2. Check the Control & Image Tray — Some camera controls live in the main Studio dashboard rather than in Advanced Settings.

  3. Verify your device — Make sure the make and model in Iris matches your actual hardware. Driver mismatches can cause missing settings.

  4. Check the supported device list — See Supported Camera Models for confirmed compatibility.

  5. If the option still isn't there, submit a ticket or email support@tryiris.ai.

Troubleshooting

What's happening

Likely cause

What to do

"Advanced settings" isn't in the right-click menu

Device is still being set up (pending)

Wait for the device to finish connecting, then try again

All settings are grayed out

Device is offline

Check the device's network connection and power. Make sure it's online.

A tab you expected is missing

Your device doesn't support those settings

This is normal — only supported settings are shown

Changes don't seem to take effect

The setting may require a reboot

Look for a notification prompting you to reboot, or reboot manually from the header

"Saving..." stays on screen

Network or device communication issue

Wait a moment, then try again. Check your network connection if it persists.

Calibration button shows a warning icon

Device hasn't been calibrated or needs recalibration

Click the button to start calibration

Sleep/Wake buttons are grayed out

Cooldown period after recent press, or incompatible power state

Wait about 10 seconds and try again

FAQs

Where do I find Advanced Settings? Right-click on any connected video source in the source list and select "Advanced settings," or hover over a source in the viewport and click the gear icon.

Will changing settings here affect my live production? It depends on the setting. Some apply immediately, others are staged until you click "Save Changes." Be careful when making changes during a live session — check what you're changing before confirming.

Can I undo changes after saving? Yes. Right after saving, an "Undo Changes" button appears at the bottom of the panel. Click it to revert.

Why do different cameras show different tabs? Iris reads each device's capabilities and only shows what that camera supports. Two different camera models will likely have different options available.

Do I need to reboot after every change? No. Iris will prompt you when a reboot is needed. If you don't see a reboot notification, the change is already active.

Can I rename my device from here? Yes. Change the name and click "Save Changes" in the footer.

What is the Iris Connection tab? It's where you manage how Iris connects to your device. It has sub-tabs for monitoring connection health, configuring the video source, setting up control protocols, and viewing driver information. For Iris Enabled cameras, only the Monitoring sub-tab is available.

Does Advanced Settings work in the browser? Yes, it's available in both the desktop app and the web browser version of Iris Studio.

Use Cases

  • Bandwidth-limited environments — Lower the streaming bitrate in the Video tab to reduce network usage during sessions with limited upload bandwidth.

  • Mixing output types — If your hardware has limited HDMI inputs but plenty of SDI, use the Video tab to configure the right output mix for your setup.

  • Encoding efficiency — Choose H.264 encoding for more efficient data usage if cloud bandwidth or overages are a concern.
