Allowances - how to customise the display of allowances in your proposals

You can customise how allowances will be displayed in your proposals.

Updated over a week ago

JACK allows you to customise how your clients will be able to view allowances in the proposal documents you prepare for them. There are two ways to customise how an allowance will be displayed.

1. Customise how allowances are displayed from within an Estimate

Navigate to Estimates > Details, and you can select which option you want from the Allowance Markup Distribution drop-down.

Here, there are two options:

  • Distribute over all non-allowance items (default option): The $ markup amount on all allowance cost items will be evenly spread over all non-allowance cost items. The customer will see only the allowance amount with no margin. An example of where this should be used: You include the cost of an oven in your estimate with model type and brand. Your customer can easily find the price for that exact oven and may question why your price is much higher. You would then need to explain that your margin is included on top of the allowance.

  • Do not distribute allowance markup: The $ markup amount on your allowance items will be displayed within the allowance amount.

By default, JACK will choose to distribute the markup on allowances over all non-allowance items.

2. Customise how allowances are displayed from within Document setup

If you are creating a new document navigate to the relevant Estimate > Documents > + Document > complete all other document setup and expand the Estimate drop-down.

Next, link your estimate and then scroll down slightly to the Allowances section. You can use the tickbox to toggle on and off the Include allowances section, show quantity and UOM, and Include tax in totals. The document preview on the left will show you how this will be displayed on the final document.

Make sure to save any changes before exiting the document by clicking in the bottom right.
