How to upload plans for takeoffs

Prepare fast and accurate estimates with the ability to upload plans and complete digital takeoffs

Updated over 6 months ago

JACK allows you to upload digital plans so that you can draw lines and shapes and count items on a plan, and these measurements will automatically feed into your costings.

To upload a plan and complete takeoffs, carry out the following steps:

  1. Navigate to Estimates > select the relevant estimate > Takeoffs.

  2. In the top right, select the (upload icon) New File button. This will allow your to select the relevant file from your network drive.

  3. Once the plan has been processed, you will see a preview of the file on the right side of the screen. You can navigate to other pages by clicking on the Page drop-down box on the right-hand side. The ⋮ button to the right of the Page drop-down box allows you to rename pages and delete pages that are not required.

  4. You will be asked to set the scale for each page by typing in the text box the scale to match your plans, for example, 1:100. Next, draw a line on a known measurement within the plan, type the number of mm indicated on the plan, and click on Set Scale. The scale will be displayed in the bottom right next to the ruler icon.

  5. If the scale is the same on all pages, click on the ⋮ button next to Scale at the bottom right, select copy scale to pages, and then tick which pages you want to bulk apply the scale to. If you have made a mistake you can edit the scale within this menu also.

  6. You can now click and 'grab' onto the page preview to move around. You can zoom in and out by holding ctrl and rolling the wheel on your mouse, or by clicking on the +/- icon in the top right of the page preview screen.

  7. The other settings button above the +/- buttons also allows you to edit the opacity of the plan and rotate the plan to make it display in a landscape profile. These changes can differ from page to page and will be saved even if you exit the takeoff.
