How transport providers work in Jigcar

Understanding the different ways vehicles get moved

When a vehicle needs to move, there are several ways it can be fulfilled in Jigcar. Understanding the difference helps you choose the right option when requesting a movement.

Internal (trade plate) drivers

These are drivers working directly with your organisation. They typically use trade plates to drive individual vehicles from A to B, or they may operate transporters. Internal drivers appear in your Jigcar driver pool and use the Jigcar driver app.

Best for: Short-distance moves, ad-hoc and urgent requests, moves where you need maximum control and visibility.

Transport providers

Transport providers are external logistics companies that move vehicles on your behalf. They have their own fleets, drivers, and equipment. Your organisation may have contracts or preferred relationships with specific transport providers.

In Jigcar, transport providers can be assigned to movements directly. When you send a job to a provider, they receive a notification and can accept and manage the delivery through the platform.

Best for: Longer-distance moves, multi-car loads, high-volume scheduled transport, where external capacity is needed.

The marketplace

Marketplaces have a network of vetted transport providers. When you request a movement through a marketplace like Movex, it can be sent to multiple providers to compare quotes. This gives you access to a wider pool of capacity beyond your contracted providers.

Best for: When your usual providers are at capacity, finding competitive rates, accessing specialist transport types.

How do I choose?

When creating a movement request, you'll select the transport type based on your organisation's setup. Some organisations route everything through a central planning team who decide the best option; others let individual sites choose directly. If you're unsure, check with your planning team or Jigcar admin.
