What is the SAPOA Bursary Fund?
The SAPOA Bursary Fund was established in 2009 to support transformation, address historical inequalities, and promote the property sector to young South Africans. It provides financial assistance to deserving students pursuing property-related courses at South African universities.
What expenses does the bursary cover?
The bursary covers tuition fees, study books, accommodation, mentoring, and tutoring.
Eligibility
Who is eligible to apply for the SAPOA Bursary?
South African citizens aged 18 to 35, either current matriculants or university students studying or intending to study property-related courses can apply.
Preference is given to students who are employment equity candidates and those pursuing their first qualification at a specific level.
Can Non-South African Citizens apply for the SAPOA bursary?
No, the SAPOA bursary fund only funds South African citizens aged 18 to 35.
Can postgraduate students apply for the bursary?
Yes, postgraduate students pursuing property-related Masterās, PhD programs, or a Postgraduate Diploma in Property Development and Management (PGDipPDM) are eligible to apply.
Regarding Honours Programs, you need to be in your first year of Honours. SAPOA will not fund repeated modules at an honours level.
Can I apply if I have not yet applied to institutions to study one of the funded degree programs?
No, you cannot apply for the SAPOA 2025 bursary without proof of application or provisional acceptance for 2025. If you are currently studying one of the funded degree programs, you have to submit your proof of registration for 2024.
Can I apply for the SAPOA Bursary if I am returning to university in 2025 to complete my post-graduate studies?
Yes, applicants who are returning to university in 2025 to complete their postgraduate studies can apply for the bursary. When applying, please indicate which institution you plan on studying at next year, the level of studies i.e. masters, honours or PHD, and submit your proof of application/acceptance letter for 2025.

Application Process
How do I apply for the SAPOA Bursary?

What documents are current matriculants required to submit?
Grade 11 or latest report card: An official report card from your school with the latest available grades.
ID: A copy of your South African ID.
Motivational letter: A letter explaining why you should be awarded the bursary, your career aspirations, and how the bursary will assist you.
Parent/Guardian ID: Copies of your parentās or guardianās ID.
Parent/Guardian Proof of Income: This can include payslips, bank statements, or other relevant documents proving income.
Provisional Acceptance Letter, Waitlist Letter, or Proof of Application for 2025: An official letter from an accredited institution showing your application or acceptance status for the 2025 academic year.
Unabridged Birth Certificate (optional): This includes your parents' details, though it is optional.

What should be included in the motivational letter?
The motivational letter should explain why you deserve the bursary, your career aspirations, and how the bursary will help you achieve your goals. It should be no more than 2 pages.
When is the application deadline?
Applications open on the 15th of July 2024 and close on the 15th of September 2024.
Post-Application
When will I know if my application was successful?
Applicants will receive feedback within two months of the closing date. Please refrain from contacting SAPOA for updates before this period.
Can the bursary be renewed?
Yes, bursaries are awarded for one academic year at a time and can be renewed annually based on academic performance.
