General Advice
Local validation requirements here
Great Yarmouth’s BNG level is set at 10%.
The NPPF states: "applicants are encouraged to consider biodiversity net gain early in the development process and factor it into site selection and design. Where appropriate, they should discuss the biodiversity net gain requirements for their development upfront with the relevant local planning authority utilising any pre-application advice services offered by them. This could help establish whether development proposals would be subject to biodiversity net gain and, if they are, enable feedback on the proposed strategy for achieving the biodiversity gain objective and consideration of the Biodiversity Gain Hierarchy to inform the design of the proposals"

Specific Requirements
Specific BNG Requirements are set out in Policy 2.36 of the Local Plan (adopted December 2021).
2.36 Consideration will need to be given to how Green Infrastructure could contribute to demonstrating 'biodiversity net gain' should this pass through into legislation. DEFRA consulted on its proposal to implement a requirement for greenfield sites to achieve a 10% net gain in biodiversity (i.e. habitats and species). In such cases the baseline biodiversity for a site (i.e. the undeveloped site) will be crucial, but also the opportunities to provide improvements onsite as part of the development. Where these are not available, there may be opportunities to enhance local or more strategic green infrastructure features to meet this requirement.
