When Do I Get Paid?

How commission flows from booking to bank account, including payment schedules, typical timelines, and what affects when you receive payment.

Summary

  • Commissions paid via direct deposit on the 15th and 30th of each month

  • Commission is earned AFTER travel occurs, not when the booking is made

  • Typical timeline from booking to payout: 2-6+ months

  • Suppliers pay Fora 14-90 days after travel; Fora then pays you

  • Commission standard is 1099 income; you handle your own taxes

  • Track pending and paid commissions in the earnings dashboard

How commission flows

The payment sequence

  1. Booking is made → No commission yet

  2. Client completes travel → Commission is now "earned"

  3. Supplier pays Fora → Typically 14-90 days after travel

  4. Fora pays advisor → Next payment cycle (15th or 30th)

You are NOT paid when you book. You are paid after your client travels AND after the supplier pays Fora.

This is to protect advisors from any financial liability that could result from changes or cancellations being made before a trip is fully executed. As a result, you only touch finances when you are being paid.

Edge cases and special situations

Cancelled trips
No commission. If a trip is cancelled, commission is not paid.

Refunds and chargebacks
Can create negative adjustments. If a supplier claws back commission due to refund or dispute, this may appear as a negative adjustment on your statement.

Slow suppliers
Some suppliers (especially cruises and tours) can take 90+ days post-travel to pay commission. This is industry standard. We label "risky payers" on portal so that you are aware of this ahead of time.

Modifications
If a booking is modified significantly, the original commission may be adjusted.

Tracking your commissions

Commission dashboard

The Fora portal includes a commission dashboard where you can track:

Status

Meaning

Pending travel

Booked, awaiting travel completion

Pending commission

Travel complete, awaiting supplier payment

Received commission

Payment history

What you've been paid

Planning fees: the exception

If you charge clients a planning fee for your time, that money is collected before or at the time of service—not after travel. This is one reason many advisors start charging fees early: it creates more immediate income while commissions build in the pipeline.

International advisors

  • Fora supports local currency payouts through Routable (EUR, GBP, MXN, CAD, others)

  • If your currency isn't supported, payouts via international transfer through Mercury

  • Complete W-8 or W-9 documentation at first commission

  • You are responsible for reporting income per your home country's rules

Common scenarios

If...

Then...

You just joined and want fast income

Book travel happening soon (personal or client)

Your client cancels their trip

No commission will be paid

You see "pending" status for months

Normal; waiting for travel + supplier payment

You booked travel 9 months out

Expect payout ~11-12 months from now

You want to track your pipeline

Use the commission dashboard

In practice
Olga Rykova, who transitioned from Four Seasons to full-time advising, describes the first three months as the hardest—but notes that once the pipeline fills, income becomes much more predictable.

FAQs

Why is it taking so long to get paid?
Commission is earned after travel, then suppliers take 14-60 days to pay Fora. This is industry standard, not a Fora-specific delay.

Can I get paid faster?
The timing is largely determined by travel dates and supplier payment cycles. Book near-term travel for faster payouts.

What if a supplier never pays?
Fora's commission operations team follows up with suppliers. If a supplier truly defaults, that commission may not be payable.

Do I need to invoice clients?
No. Clients pay suppliers directly. Suppliers pay commission to Fora; Fora pays you.

Can commission be deducted for membership fees?
No. Membership fees and commission payouts are separate. Fees are not deducted from your commissions.
