Retail Sales Report

Written by Marie London

We're excited to bring you an expanded reporting experience. If you don't see the reporting features described below, don't worry—this updated reporting experience will become available to your account over time.

Overview

The Retail Sales report helps you understand how your retail products are performing. It breaks down product sales by product, brand, category, and location, showing units sold, revenue, discounts, refunds, and margin so you can see the full performance picture for your retail catalog.

Use this report to analyze sales trends and revenue mix, evaluate margin and profitability, and measure the impact of discounts and promotions. It's especially useful for purchasing and inventory decisions, since you can combine sales data with current on-hand quantities to spot reorder needs, slow movers, and zero-sales items before they tie up shelf space.

Note: This report covers retail product sales only — memberships, packages, and products consumed internally during services aren't included here; use Daily Summary or Detailed Line Item for a full sales view across all item types. Margin figures also depend on unit cost being configured on the product, so double-check that before relying on Retail Margin %. See the Report Caveats section below for more, including the difference between At-Sale and Current Unit Cost.

Report Caveats

There are a few important caveats and limitations to be aware of when using this report. Use these details to better understand how the data behaves and how to interpret it correctly.

Caveats

Details and Impact

This report includes retail product sales only — memberships, packages, and service product usage are not included

The word "product" has historically been used loosely in Boulevard to refer to memberships, packages, and retail items together. This report is restricted to retail product line items only. Membership sales, package sales, and products consumed internally during services (service product usage) do not appear here. If a total sales view across all item types is needed, use the Daily Summary or Detailed Line Item report instead.

Product Quantity Sold excludes refunded units — but Retail Refund Amount includes the refunded dollar value

Product Quantity Sold counts only units associated with forward sale line items. Refunded units are excluded from this count. However, Retail Refund Amount surfaces the dollar value of refunded transactions as a separate measure. If a product was sold and refunded in the same period, Quantity Sold will not reflect the return but Retail Net Amount will be reduced by the refund. Use Retail Refunds Count to track how often refunds are occurring per product.

At-Sale Unit Cost and Current Unit Cost are different — do not use them interchangeably for margin calculations

At-Sale Unit Cost (Average) reflects the cost recorded at the time the order was closed. Current Unit Cost reflects what is configured on the product today. If a unit cost was updated after a sale — for example, after a product import reset the cost — the two values will differ significantly for historical transactions. Always use At-Sale Unit Cost for margin analysis on past sales. Current Unit Cost is a reference for today's catalog only. Mixing the two will produce incorrect margin figures.

Retail Margin and Retail Margin % will be zero or incorrect if no unit cost is configured

Retail Margin is calculated as Sale Amount minus Discount minus (At-Sale Unit Cost × Quantity Sold). If no unit cost has been entered on the product profile or on the purchase orders that brought inventory in, the cost component will be zero and Retail Margin will equal Retail Net Amount — overstating profitability. Retail Margin % will also be misleading in this case. Ensure unit costs are configured for all products where margin tracking matters before relying on these fields.

Inventory On Hand reflects today's stock level — it does not change when a date filter is applied

The Inventory On Hand field is a live snapshot of current on-hand quantity pulled from the product location record at query time. Applying a date filter to this report will filter the sales transactions to that period but will not affect Inventory On Hand — it will always show today's quantity regardless of the selected date range. Do not use Inventory On Hand to reason about historical stock levels; use the Inventory Activity report for that purpose.
