Closing Your Chest Account

What to know before closing your account and how to do it

Updated over 3 months ago

If you no longer want to use Chest, you can close your account. Here's what you need to know before you do.

Important: You can't close your account while holding pension funds

Your Chest account is linked to your SIPP. If you have money in your pension, you'll need to transfer it to another provider before we can close your account. We can't pay pension funds directly to you - this is a legal requirement for all pensions.

Closing within the first 30 days

If you set up your SIPP within the last 30 days, you have the option to cancel it:

  • Any contributions you've made will be refunded to your bank account

  • Any tax relief added by HMRC will be returned to them

  • Your SIPP and account will be closed

To cancel within this period, contact us at hello@joinchest.com.

Closing after 30 days

If more than 30 days have passed since you set up your SIPP, cancellation is no longer available. To close your account, you'll need to:

  1. Transfer your pension to another provider (see our article on transferring your pension out of Chest)

  2. Wait for the transfer to complete

  3. Contact us at hello@joinchest.com to close your SIPP and account

There are no exit fees for transferring your pension out of Chest.

What happens to your data?

When your account is closed, we retain certain information to meet our legal and regulatory obligations. This includes records of your transactions and identity verification. For more details on how we handle your data, see our Privacy Policy in the app under My Account β†’ Documents.

Can I reopen my account later?

If you close your account and later decide to use Chest again, you're welcome to create a new account. You'll need to go through the full signup and SIPP setup process again.
