The color black can be printed in many ways using CMYK printing. The two black colors we recommend are K100 black and rich black, but rich black should only be used in certain circumstances.
The subtleties between these blacks is hard to see on screen, but the difference in print output can be drastic, so it is important to pay attention to this.
K100 Black
Should be used:
Text β especially body text and smaller text
Screens and tints (to make grey)
In gradients
Rich Black
Should be used:
Large areas of solid black where a deep black colour is desired
Large heading text (over 16pt font size)
Regardless of if you choose to use K100 Black or Rich Black in your design, the best output will be achieved by supplying vector files.
Other black colours that are not recommended include: RGB Black and Registration Black.
