Building parent/child relationships in Juro

Group related contracts for ease of reference in a few clicks.

Written by Jimmy Mooring

Juro's parent-child function is your wide-angle lens, giving clearer visibility and context for contracts across your relationship with a counterparty.

In Juro's Related documents tab, users can link contracts and assign them as either a parent or child in that grouping. These data points are then immediately retrievable, at scale, from a View.

If this information already exists outside Juro, you can import and apply it straight to imported documents.

What are parent/child relationships? 🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒

In parent/child relationships, a master document (e.g. an MSA, or "the parent") is grouped (or linked) with any related documents (e.g., a renewal agreement, or "the child").

This association enhances clarity at key times for your business, from audits and due diligence to general month-end hygiene tasks.

Getting started with parent/child functionality in Juro 🏇🏽

Once you've assigned your parent document, there are two types of children to choose from:

Amendment: when a document actively amends its parent agreement (i.e. changes what it says).

Related document: when a document doesn't amend its parent agreement, but would be helpful to reference in the future.

To start linking documents:

1. From any contract, open the Related documents sidebar.

2. Choose the linked document's relationship type as needed.

For child contracts, you can select either amended by or related to. For a refresher on the best use of each, click here.

3. Search for the document you'd like to link and select the relevant one.

Each parent/child relationship can have one parent contract and as many child contracts as required. You can unlink a child document from its parent at any time by clicking the Unlink icon:

Display parent/child data in a View 📊

💡NOTE: If you're unfamiliar with using Views, we suggest taking a look at our dedicated feature guidance before actioning the steps below.

While linked agreements within individual contracts are extremely useful, accessing relationship data at scale can have the biggest impact on your day-to-day workflows.

Views can now display relevant contracts and their relationships to any others in a workspace.

To set this up:

1. On your Documents page, click + next to the VIEWS heading.

This pulls all of the documents from your workspace into a dashboard, ready for you to customise as needed.

2. Click + Add column. This opens a drop-down list of your smartfields to create a column from. There are additional system smartfields that you can also use.

3. Under System smartfields, select the relationship. Where you'd like to show both parent and child data, add a column for each.

Clicking a document's name in either the parent or child contract in a View will redirect you to that contract and open the Related Documents sidebar with the full relationship tree.
