How to Create a Data Source Using the MySQL Connector in Google Looker Studio

First, let’s quickly explain what a data source is.

A data source is simply a table containing specific data. Each data source represents a unique set of information from the data stored in Kapoq’s database. This could be Advertising Campaign Data, Ad Group, Target, Product Level, or more.

For insight into Kapoq Data Sources available and the associated schemas, please check out - Data Connector - Data Sources & Schema

Furthermore, by connecting through the MySQL connector, you get direct access to this Kapoq data, allowing you to view, analyze, and work with it in real time. You can also integrate it with other tools and applications—like Google Looker Studio—so you can use it for reports, dashboards, or other business needs. That's what we will walk through.

Now, here are the steps to create a Data Source in Looker Studio

  1. Login to Looker Studio > https://lookerstudio.google.com/

  2. Select Create > Data Source

  3. Give the Data Source a Name based on what data source your creating. e.g. Demo - Campaign and search for and select the MySQL Connector.

  4. Next you will input the credentials provided to you by the Kapoq team and upload the kapoq-data-connector.pem file within the MySQL SSL Client Configuration Files field.

  5. You will then choose the table that corresponds to the data source you are creating. In this case, it will be AdvertisingCampaignData and you will select connect in the top right.

  6. Now that one data source is created, you can continue to create additional data sources as needed, following steps 1 - 5 over again.

  7. Here are examples of the data sources we've created:
