Buy Box Change Alert: Near Real-Time Tracking and Actionable Insights

Learn how the Buy Box Change Alert works

Written by Shelby Rothenberg

🚨 What Is the Buy Box Change Alert?

The Buy Box Change Alert provides near real-time notifications when your product offer gains or loses the Buy Box (now called the Featured Offer by Amazon) within a rolling 24-hour window. You’ll know exactly when it happened and who took your spot—down to the minute.

This feature is powered by the Amazon Notifications API, ensuring near real-time accuracy by capturing Buy Box changes directly from Amazon’s own event stream. The alert is filtered to the Featured Offer change type only, so you won’t see noise from other kinds of price change events.

🧭 Where to Find It

There are two easy ways to access Buy Box Alerts:

  1. From the Alerts Widget
Click on Buy Box Changes to jump straight to your active product changes.

  2. From the Listing Module
Navigate to Listing Module → Opportunities, then locate the Buy Box Change grids.

📊 Understanding the Tabs

Once inside, you’ll find three tabs, each showing a count of active changes:

  • Favorited
A focused view of the specific ASINs you care about most. Add favorites from the ASIN/Item tab of the Catalog submodule or directly from the Buy Box Change grids.

  • Losing
Displays products that have lost the Buy Box, with timestamps, competitor details, offer price, Prime status, and your current inventory.

  • Gaining
Shows newly acquired Buy Box wins, giving you a complete picture of movement.

🔍 Detailed Tracking at a Glance

Each entry includes:

  • The exact time the change occurred

  • Your offer’s status (active or inactive)

  • Your fulfillable quantity

  • The current Buy Box winner

  • Their price and Prime eligibility

  • Currently In Buy Box status

  • Buy Box Win Rate (details below)

✅ Reading the “Currently In Buy Box” Check

The near real-time notification stream also feeds a live Currently In Buy Box field. If this is checked on a lost Buy Box entry, you’ve already regained the Buy Box and no action is needed. The alert is still useful as a record of who held the Buy Box at the time the change was detected.

⏱️ The 24-Hour Window

The alert covers Buy Box changes within the last 24 hours only, and notification history is not retained beyond that window. If the Buy Box was lost outside the window, it won’t appear here, but you can always check:

  • The Has Buy Box column in Listings → Catalog (SKU and ASIN tabs) for near real-time status across your full catalog

  • Buy Box % reporting in Analytics for historical trends

🧠 Kapoq’s Buy Box Win Rate vs. Amazon’s Buy Box Percent

Now here's something really powerful—our Kapoq-calculated Buy Box Win Rate. Here's how it compares to Amazon's metric:

  • Amazon’s Buy Box Percent

    • Based on the percentage of page views where your offer was the featured Buy Box offer

    • Heavily influenced by traffic volume and when customers visited the page

  • Kapoq’s Buy Box Win Rate

    • Based on the amount of time your offer held the Buy Box—not dependent on page views

    • Calculated to show how often you won the Buy Box among all detected changes for that product over the past 30 days.

    • Acts as your “time in the spotlight” indicator—showing how consistently you’ve owned the Buy Box

This gives you a clearer, traffic-independent measure of performance—ideal for identifying which listings need your attention most.

Example:
If your Buy Box win rate is 71.43%, that means your offer lost the Buy Box for roughly 8.5 days in the past month, even if no customers viewed the listing during that time.
