Connecting your Microsoft Office 365 account

Before getting started

Karbon integrates with Office 365 Business and Office 365 Business Premium plans. It will not work with the Office 365 Essentials plan.

To determine whether your email is on Essentials vs. Business, try to login to your Microsoft web mail (eg outlook.com). Once you login, look at the URL that Microsoft uses once you are logged in.

If the URL prefix looks like https://outlook.office.com/owa, then you are using Microsoft Business edition (or higher) for your email client. If, however, the URL prefix looks like https://outlook.live.com/, then you are using Microsoft Essentials and you will need to update your Microsoft Office 365 subscription to a higher level (at or above Business edition).

If you discover you are on the Office 365 Essentials plan and upgrade to a Business plan to work with Karbon, complete the steps below to gain access. Either click the 'Accept' button in the previously sent email or create an account from the Get Karbon page.

If you have been invited in by our Sales team

  1. Open the email invitation to Karbon and click the 'Accept' button. You will be navigated to a browser page that asks you how you would like to continue

  2. Select your email provider as 'Office 365'

  3. Enter your Office 365 email address and password and click 'Login'

If you have been invited in by a colleague

  1. Open the email invitation to Karbon and click the 'Accept' button. You will be navigated to a browser page that asks you how you would like to continue

  2. On the browser page, select your email provider: 'Office 365'

  3. Enter your Office 365 email address and password and click 'Login'

  4. If you receive an error or if you have multiple Office 365 accounts, please go to go to Office 365 and make sure you are logged into your work email address (and not a personal or manager's Office 365 account)

  5. Open your email and click on the Accept Invite link in the most recent Karbon invite you received

  6. Accept the invite using your Office 365 login

Note: If you are still receiving errors, please send an email to support@karbonhq.com and include screenshots of your experience so we can help you.

Creating your own account

  1. If you are creating an account yourself from our Get Karbon page

  2. Select your email provider: 'Office 365'

  3. Enter your Office 365 email address and password and click 'Login'

I need admin approval to connect

Office 365 users may require an administrator to grant them access to approve for Karbon to connect to their Office 365 account.

If you are trying to activate your account using your Office 365 account and receive this message, your administrator needs to grant you permission to get access.

To resolve this, an administrator will need to:

  1. Login into the Azure Portal

  2. Click on Azure Active Directory

  3. Click Users

  4. Click User Settings

  5. Click Yes under App registrations

The user should now be able to login without the error above being displayed.

Changing Office 365 tenant for email hosting

If you currently use Office 365 and are changing to a new Office 365 provider, please reach out to Karbon support to coordinate the update. Please let us know when you are planning to make the switch.

This change will not affect any of your data currently in Karbon. However, new email messages will not import into Karbon until after we process your change, so it's best if we coordinate a time to do this with you in advance.

You can read more here about other potential changes to email accounts in Karbon.

Note: When you first log in to your new Karbon account, it can take up to 15 minutes for your emails to appear. After this time, your 20 most recent emails will flow into Triage, and every email received after that.
