Kari supports debit and prepaid cards, however, there are some tips if you decide to use these types of cards.
When you book a ride with Kari, we always charge a pre-authorization of 120% of the estimated fare to ensure there are sufficient funds available on the card. When you use a prepaid card, you will need to have at least 200% of the estimated fare available on the card to avoid any issues.
Here's an example of how it works:
When you request a ride, in this example it is estimated to be a $10 ride, Kari will pre-authorize your card for 120% of the fare. When you use a debit or prepaid card the money is held from the account immediately.
โ
Along your ride, you make a stop and the total fare is now $13, Kari then finishes the ride with the new price of $13 and immediately refunds the reauthorization of $10 back to your card or account.
โ
While the $10.00 goes back to your debit or prepaid card, typically your bank takes a few days to show it on your account, put it can take longer if using a debit or prepaid card.
Why do you hold 120% of the estimated fare on every ride?
This is to allow riders to alter their trip in some cases like making an extra stop or picking up a friend along the way.
