Your subscription will include a kilometre allowance (also referred to as a mileage allowance). Our allowances are generous, and most customers can drive without needing to worry about exceeding these limits.
Like a smart meter for your home electricity, Karmo keeps track of your kilometre allowance usage.
How Your Allowance Works
Subscription Customers
Subscription Customers
Think of your kilometre allowance like data on a mobile phone plan. Whether your kilometre allowance is weekly or monthly, you are entitled to a specific number of kilometres for that period.
The KM Bank: If you don’t use your full allowance within the weekly or monthly allocation, the remaining kilometres are stored in your "KM Bank" to cover future trips.
Exceeding Your Allowance: If you drive further than your allowance, the extra kilometres are first drawn from your KM Bank.
Excess Charges: Once your KM Bank is empty, any additional kilometres are charged at the rate outlined in your Subscription Agreement.
Note: To keep things simple, we only process excess charges once they accumulate to $50.00 or more. This will be added to your next scheduled payment
Here is an example of how the allowance is calculated if you are on a weekly kilometre allowance.
If you are on a monthly kilometre allowance, the calculation remains the same but over a period of a month instead of a week.
Refunds for Excess Kilometres Charges (Subscription Only)
We want to ensure you only pay for what you use over the subscription duration. When you return your vehicle, we perform a final reconciliation:
Calculate Total Allowance: (Weekly or monthly allowance x total weeks or months of subscription).
Compare to Actual Usage: We look at the total kilometres used from the odometer reading during pick-up and on return of the vehicle.
Refund: If your total actual kilometres are within your Total KM Allowance, we will refund any excess charges you paid during the subscription.
Example calculation of the total allowance over a subscription:
Weekly: A 12-week subscription with a 385km allowance = 4,620km total.
Monthly: A 3-month subscription with a 1,600km allowance = 4,800km total.
Rideshare Customers
Rideshare Customers
The maximum Weekly Kilometre Allowance plan available for rideshare customers is 1,500 KM. Each week, you are entitled to drive freely within your Weekly Kilometre Allowance. If you exceed the Weekly Kilometre Allowance, you will be charged for each excess KM travelled. The applicable charge rate is outlined in your Subscription Agreement.
The KM Bank and Refunds for Excess KM Charges are not applicable to rideshare customers.
Excess Kilometre Charge Notifications
If you have incurred excess kilometre charges, you will receive a notification prior to your next payment.
If we notice that you consistently exceed the kilometre allowance, we may need to discuss this with you. In such cases, we may request the vehicle to be returned or initiate a contract renegotiation to find a solution that best fits your needs.
