Creating your first Karri Chat

Create a Karri Chat and get talking!

Written by Ben Chapple

To start sending messages to and from your Karri Messenger, you first need to create a Chat in the App. This allows you to control who can talk with your Messenger, and to keep track of all messages.

Before you can create a Chat, you'll need to set up your Karri Messenger

Create a Karri Chat

When you finish pairing your Karri Messenger you'll be prompted to 'Start your first chat'. You can also create new Chats by tapping the '+' button in the top right corner of the 'Chats' tab in your Karri App. Only the account that originally paired the Messenger (the admin account) can create chats that include that Messenger. (NB. if others want to add your Messenger to a chat, it will need to be requested through the App and approved by the App user).

First, you'll need to select who should be in the Chat. You can tap on any of your contacts or add new contacts via the 'Manage contacts' button. If you're selecting a Karri Messenger 1, you'll also need to select what colour the Chat will appear as on the Messenger. Only approved participants in the chat can send messages to the Messenger. Ensure that the Messenger itself is selected during this step, as it is not added automatically.

Then, simply give the Chat a name (and add a photo if you'd like).

Managing Participants and Admin Roles

  • To manage participants in an existing chat, open the Chat’s 'i' menu

  • From this menu you can add or remove participants

  • You can also promote other App users to admin roles, allowing them to manage the chat independently

  • NOTE: once an App user is promoted to admin, other admins cannot remove them from the Chat

  • If you wish to leave the chat but want it to remain active between other participants and the Karri Messenger(s) in the Chat, promote another user to admin before exiting

Great! Now you can start sending and receiving messages!
