On Free and Kautio Full Access, one check-in is Active at a time: a check-in whose start arrives while another is Active waits and starts automatically. On Kautio Pro, check-ins run side by side. Every plan runs the same check-in: the same grace windows, tiers, texts, phone call option, and follow-up. For plans and prices, see Plans, credits, and prices.
One check-in at a time (Free and Full Access)
On Free and Kautio Full Access, only one check-in can be Active at a time. A check-in whose activity start arrives while another check-in is Active stays Scheduled and waits.
Check-in details for the waiting check-in shows "Waiting for another check-in to finish. Starts automatically."
The waiting check-in starts once the other check-in is no longer Active, for example when it is dismissed or reaches Follow-up pending or Complete. A check-in in Follow-up pending doesn't hold it up.
Kautio tries to start the waiting check-in about every 2 minutes and never drops it, so it starts within about 2 minutes of the other one leaving Active.
You are told once, with a "[title] is waiting to start" notification.
You may also have seen the One at a time notice when you scheduled the check-in (see Scheduling a check-in › Why did I see "One at a time" after scheduling?).
When does a waiting check-in's first grace window open?
For a Kautio check-in that waited for another one to finish, Send first check-in after still counts from the original activity start, not from when the check-in actually starts. If that time has already passed when the check-in starts, its first grace window opens right away, and it is a full grace window: you still get your whole Grace window before Tier 1 is notified.
Example: a check-in has Send first check-in after set to 30 min and Grace window set to 5 min, and waits 45 minutes past its activity start for another check-in to finish. Its first grace window opens as soon as it becomes Active, 45 minutes after the activity start, because the 30 minutes have already passed. Its "[title] is starting" notification says "Your first check-in is opening now. You'll have 5 minutes to check in before Tier 1 is notified." If you don't respond, Tier 1 is notified at 50 minutes.
Can I change or cancel a check-in that's waiting to start?
A Kautio check-in that's waiting for another one to finish is still Scheduled, so you can cancel it with Cancel check-in (see Changing or cancelling a check-in › Cancelling a check-in).
You can't save edits to a waiting check-in. Edit check-in is still shown, but saving fails because the activity start has already passed. To change it, cancel it and schedule a new check-in.
Running check-ins side by side on Pro
On Kautio Pro, each check-in becomes Active at its own activity start and runs alongside your other check-ins, with its own grace windows and tiers.
While you have more than one check-in Active, the texts your contacts get also say how long ago that check-in started ("started N ago"), so a contact on two of your check-ins can tell them apart. Every text is still sent; none is held back.
If several check-ins with Share my location are Active at once, location is recorded for only one of them at a time.
What differs by plan
Kautio plans differ only in how many check-ins you can schedule, whether they can overlap, and the Pro conveniences.
