Reporting misuse

What you can report, how to report an invitation, contact, or alert, what a report changes, and report errors.

Written by Support Team

A Kautio report sends a member's invitation, contact connection, or check-in alert to the Kautio team for review. A report never changes who gets notified for any check-in, and it doesn't block or remove anyone by itself. This chapter covers what you can report, how to send a report, what happens next, and how Kautio stores reports.

What can I report?

You can send a Kautio report about another member in three situations:

You can report

When

An invitation

Someone invited you to be their contact.

A contact

Someone is your contact now, or was your contact before.

A check-in alert

You were set up to be notified for someone's check-in.

You can report only someone you're connected to through one of these. Kautio checks the connection before it accepts a report.

How do I report an invitation, a contact, or a check-in alert?

Kautio's Report option is in three places:

  • An invitation: on the invitation screen, tap Report, below Accept and Decline.

  • A contact: in your contacts list, open the contact's menu and tap Report.

  • A check-in alert: on the check-in's Check-in details screen (opened as a contact), tap More options, then Report this alert.

To send the report:

  1. The first time you use Report, or any in-app support, the Kautio support sheet appears. Tap Agree and continue. If you tap Not now, no report is sent. See Kautio support › Why does Kautio ask me to agree before opening support?

  2. On Report, choose a reason: Unwanted contact, Harassment, Impersonation, Spam, or Something else.

  3. Optionally, write in Add details (optional), up to 1,000 characters.

  4. Tap Send report. (It becomes available once you choose a reason.)

  5. Kautio shows Report received. Tap Done.

Does reporting someone block or remove them?

No. Sending a Kautio report doesn't block or remove anyone.

The Report received screen offers a separate, optional step:

  • after reporting an invitation: Block this person;

  • after reporting a contact: Remove contact;

  • after reporting a check-in alert: no extra step.

The step runs only if you tap it. For blocking, removing contacts, and stopping texts, see Managing your contacts and Got a text from Kautio? Kautio has no in-app unblock; to unblock a number, email support@kautio.app.

What happens after I send a report?

A person on the Kautio team reviews every report. The report form says "A person on our team reviews every report." Where in-app support is available, the form adds "You can follow it in Settings → My requests."

A report never changes who gets notified, doesn't change any check-in, and doesn't lead to a particular outcome.

The Kautio team receives the reason, your note, the account IDs of the two members, and the ID of the invitation, contact, or check-in. It doesn't receive the check-in's title, description, or location. The report reaches the team through our support provider, currently Intercom. See Kautio support › What does our support provider receive?

What if my report won't send?

A Kautio report that doesn't send shows one of two messages:

Message

What it means

What to do

"Couldn't send your report. Try again."

The report didn't reach Kautio, for example because of the connection.

Tap Send report again. Trying again never files the same report twice.

"The report couldn't be sent. Contact support if this keeps happening."

Kautio couldn't confirm your connection to the person, or you've sent 10 reports in 24 hours.

Reports work even when in-app support is unavailable, because they go to Kautio directly.

How does Kautio store reports?

Kautio stores each report with the account ID of the member who filed it, the account ID of the member it concerns, the reason and the note, and a status. Reports may be kept after they're resolved, as described in the Privacy Policy.

  • If the member who filed a report deletes their account, the report keeps its content and loses that member's account ID.

  • If the reported member deletes their account, their account ID is removed from the report once the report is closed.

Reports you filed appear in Export my data, without the other member's account ID. See Your privacy and data › How do I get a copy of my data?
