What is an alternative message and when should you use it?

Keep your outreach clean and reliable with fallback messaging logic in Kanbox.

🔄 Why use an alternative message?

If some variables are missing from a member’s profile, your original message may end up awkward or broken.

To avoid that, Kanbox allows you to define an alternative message that will be used only when key data is unavailable.

✏️ When is the alternative message triggered?

As soon as you insert one of the following variables in your message:

  • {{job title}}

  • {{company}}

  • {{industry}}

  • {{location}}

👉 A "Alternative message" block will appear automatically in the message editor.
You can use it to write a fallback version that only relies on safe variables like {{firstname}} and {{lastname}}.

👥 What happens during a multi-recipient send?

When sending a message to multiple people at once (from the Inbox, a Pipeline, or a campaign):

  • ✅ Profiles with all required variables filled will receive the main message.

  • ⚠️ If one or more of those variables are missing, the alternative message will be sent instead.

💡 This ensures that every recipient gets a clean, natural message, no matter how complete their LinkedIn profile is.
