My Hydraulic Pump Is Leaking — What Should I Do?

How to tell if your pump needs replacing, what your warranty covers, and how to get a replacement.

Written by Samantha

If you're seeing oil around the base of your chair or on the floor underneath it, your hydraulic pump is likely leaking. This isn't something that can be repaired — but it's straightforward to resolve, and our team is here to help.

Here's how to figure out your next step.

First: Is it definitely a leak?

A small amount of residue around the pump shaft is normal — especially in the first few weeks of use. What you're looking for is:

  • Oil pooling on the floor under or around the base

  • Visible oil on the pump cylinder that wasn't there before

  • The chair sinking during use in combination with visible oil — this usually means the pump has lost pressure

If you're seeing any of these, the pump needs to be replaced.

Check your warranty

Keller hydraulic pumps come with a 2-year warranty from the original purchase date. Here's what that means for replacements:

Within the first year: Replacement pump shipped at no charge — we cover the pump and the shipping.

Year 1 to year 2: Replacement pump provided at no charge — you cover the shipping cost (typically around $40 depending on location).

Past your warranty period? Replacement pumps are available for purchase directly on our website starting at $139.

What we'll need from you

To get your replacement moving as quickly as possible, please include the following when you contact us:

  • Your order number (starts with KS)

  • Photos of the leak — showing the oil on or around the pump and base

  • Your shipping address for the replacement

Having these details ready helps our team review your warranty status and move things along as smoothly as possible.

What to expect

Once our team reviews your photos and order:

  • If it's under warranty, we'll confirm the replacement and get it shipped. You'll receive tracking information once it's on its way.

  • If it's outside warranty, we'll send you a direct link to the right replacement pump for your chair model, along with any available pricing options.

A note on replacement pumps: if your chair is an older model, the replacement pump may look slightly different from the original — but it's fully compatible and will work as intended.
