How to Bleed and Maintain Your Hydraulic Pump

A step-by-step guide to keeping your pump running smoothly — from first setup to ongoing care.

Before First Use — Bleed Your Pump

New hydraulic pumps can have trapped air inside from shipping and storage. Bleeding the pump before you start using it prevents popping sounds and ensures smooth operation from day one.

Follow the steps below to bleed your pump before putting your chair into regular use.

How to Bleed Your Pump

Make sure the pump is at room temperature before you begin. Ensure the chair is in a full upright position, then:

  1. Have someone sit in the chair.

  2. Pump the chair up to the highest position.

  3. Slowly lower it all the way down.

  4. Repeat 3–4 times to release trapped air.

We recommend repeating this process 1–2 times a month depending on how much use the chair gets.

Keeping Your Pump in Good Shape

A couple of habits go a long way:

  • When the chair is not in use or being moved, always lock it in the lowest position. This prevents air and dust from getting inside the pump.

  • Clean hair clippings off the pump area regularly — buildup can affect performance over time.

Regular maintenance like this helps extend the pump's lifespan and keeps your chair operating smoothly.
