If your chair isn’t reclining as much as you’d like, don’t worry! Many Barber and All-Purpose Chairs have a gas shock system that controls the recline. You may be able to adjust it with a simple fix.
How to Adjust Your Chair’s Recline:
Follow these steps to see if your chair’s recline can be adjusted:
Lay the chair on its back – This gives you better access to the gas shock. (No need to worry—oil will NOT leak out!)
Find the gas shock – It should look similar to the one in the image below.
Check for black stoppers – Most gas shocks have at least one black stopper that limits how far the chair reclines. Some have more than one.
Remove a stopper (if needed) – If your chair doesn’t recline far enough, try removing one stopper at a time, leaving a minimum of one stopper in place.
Test the recline – Once you’ve removed a stopper, set the chair upright and test how far it reclines. If there’s only one stopper left, your chair is already at its maximum recline.
📌 Important: Be sure to keep any removed stoppers in case you want to reinstall them later!
