The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) requires organisations to establish and track specific environmental, social, and governance (ESG) metrics. This guide explains how to set targets, action plans, and policies using the KEY ESG platform, focusing on pollution disclosures (E2).

Watch the video below to learn how to set CSRD-linked targets, action plans and policies:

1. Setting CSRD-Linked Targets

Targets enable you to measure the effectiveness of your ESG policies over time. Follow these steps to create and manage them:

  1. Navigate to the Target Section

    • Go to the E2 Pollution Disclosure section and scroll to the "Targets Related to Pollution" metric (E2-3).

    • Confirm by selecting "Yes" to indicate your organisation has relevant targets.

  2. Select or Create Targets

    • Use existing targets from your library or create a new one.

    • For example, to monitor phosphate emissions, select "Create Target," provide a name (e.g., "Reduce Phosphate Emissions"), and define the goal.

  3. Define the Target Parameters

    • Choose a metric (e.g., reduction by percentage).

    • Enter the base year (e.g., 2020) and ensure data is available for the selected year (indicated by a green tick).

    • Specify the reduction target (e.g., 25% by 2028).

  4. Assign Roles and Responsibilities

    • Identify the task owner, their role, and the responsible department.

  5. Save and Monitor

    • Save the target. It will appear in your Target Library, showing details like annual reductions required.

    • Use the library to track progress and make updates as needed.

2. Creating Action Plans

Action plans outline the steps required to meet your targets. Here’s how to create and manage them:

  1. Access the Action Plans Section

    • Navigate to "Actions and Resources Related to Pollution" (E2) and confirm "Yes" if you have action plans in place.

  2. Create or Use Existing Plans

    • Either choose from pre-existing plans or create a new one.

    • For example, create an action plan titled “Reduce Phosphate Pollution” with the objective to decrease pollution by 25% by 2028.

  3. Add Details

    • Enter the action name, description, and upload relevant documents if applicable.

    • Specify categories, start and end dates, and assign responsible personnel.

  4. Track Progress

    • Update the plan’s status (e.g., "In Progress").

    • Log progress updates in the system. For instance, “Added monitoring stations at effluent discharge points.”

  5. Save and Monitor

    • Once saved, the action plan will appear in the Action Plans Library, allowing for ongoing updates and tracking.

3. Uploading Policies

Policies serve as a cornerstone for your CSRD disclosures. Follow these steps to create and manage them:

  1. Navigate to the Policies Section

    • Go to "Policies Related to Pollution" (E2-1) and confirm "Yes" to indicate the existence of relevant policies.

  2. Create or Use Existing Policies

    • Choose a policy from your library or create a new one.

    • For example, create a policy titled “Environmental Pollution Policy”.

  3. Provide Details

    • Upload the policy document and add a description.

    • Specify its category, owner, and launch/update dates.

  4. Save and Track

    • Ensure you upload a supporting document before saving.

    • The policy will appear in the Policy Library, where you can view and manage it.

  5. Answer General Questions

    • Complete any general policy-related questions to finalise the process.

Tracking and Updating Your ESG Data

Use the platform’s libraries (Target, Action Plans, and Policy) to view, manage, and update your data. Log progress regularly to ensure it aligns with CSRD requirements.
