Watch this video below to learn how to configure your cabron metrics in the KEY ESG platform:
Getting an estimate of your emissions
After adding your carbon metrics to the metric library, they will appear in the data collection area. You will need to configure your carbon metrics calculator by following these steps:
Step 1: Select the carbon metric you would like to configure. I will use Scope 1 emissions in this instance.
Step 2: get an industry estimate of your emissions based on your industry, sector and your organization’s spending on goods and services. This estimate is calculated based on broad economic assumptions, derived from EIO estimations. It is important to note that these calculations are often not appropriate to submit to standard ESG frameworks, as often they are not accurate/ reliable enough due to lack of granularity
Step 3: After selecting the sector that most closely matches your organization works in, and the total spend on your purchased goods and services in your chosen currency, the KEY ESG calculator will calculate an estimate of your emissions, broken down into Scopes 1, 2 & 3 in a pie chart. You can use this breakdown to compare your performance of emissions with averages based on your sector and total spend.
Configure your carbon metrics
Now you can hoose your method to calculate emissions. You can select from the KEY ESG calculators, or the direct entry of emissions.
The KEY ESG calculator is the recommended method as they provide the most granular and accurate method to calculate your emissions, which caters for almost any data type that your organization has. By selecting this method, you can see the various datapoints included in each metric – these have been broken down into datapoints to facilitate data collection and submission, and they are aligned with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. For any data points that are not applicable to your business, you will be able to opt out of them.
The direct entry method is available if you have calculated your emissions externally with a third-party, such as a consultant. By selecting this method, you will need to provide an overall value of carbon emissions for the entire Scope (Scope 1, 2 or 3), and it is not broken down into datapoints. This method is less granular than the KEY ESG calculator method, and depending on the source of your calculated emissions, less accurate too.
Viewing carbon data in Reports
After you have configured your carbon metrics, you can view the results in "Reports".
Note on data entry methods in Reports
If a user has not selected any Data Entry method, all rows will display as "No data" in Reports.
When a user selects a data entry method (either direct entry or KEY ESG calculators), the method that has not been chosen will display as "Opted Out" in Report, and the chosen data entry method will display the data entered by the user.
