How does it work when a vehicle is shipped?

The seller will upload a Bill of Lading when the vehicle is picked up to notify KeySavvy the sale is final.

After we have verified the buyer's payment and everyone has electronically signed the bill of sale, we will approve the vehicle for pickup.

Both the buyer and seller will receive an email when this step is complete, confirming it’s okay to arrange shipping. Typically, the buyer arranges shipping and coordinates pickup with the shipper and the seller. We don’t require the physical title to be in our possession for the vehicle to be picked up; however, some sellers ask buyers to wait until we’ve received it before arranging shipping.

How do you know when a vehicle is picked up?

The seller will receive, or need to request from the shipper, a bill of lading. This is a receipt the vehicle transporter provides at pickup. The bill of lading may be a physical document that the seller signs, or it may be provided electronically, depending on the shipper’s process.

Once the seller has the bill of lading, they will click the “Confirm Pick-up” button on their dashboard, enter the mileage, and upload an image of the bill of lading or provide a link to the electronic document. After it’s uploaded, we’ll review it during business hours to confirm the vehicle was picked up. Sellers may upload the document or link at any time after transfer has been approved.

What is on the bill of lading?

The bill of lading should include the vehicle information, the delivery destination, the shipper’s information, and signatures from both the shipper and the seller.

Does the seller need to be there when the vehicle is being picked up by the shipper?

No, the seller does not need to be present when the vehicle is picked up. However, we recommend that the seller designate someone to be there to release the vehicle and sign for the bill of lading.

When do sellers get paid?

We initiate the seller's payout once the bill of lading is confirmed and we’ve received the physical title from the seller. Many sellers choose to send their title to KeySavvy in advance so we can initiate payout as soon as the vehicle is picked up and the bill of lading is confirmed during business hours.

When we receive the title, we verify that it’s signed correctly and will work with the seller to resolve any issues if corrections are needed.

What if the seller has a loan?

If the seller has a loan and does not have their title, we will initiate their equity payout and send payment to their lienholder once the vehicle is picked up and bill of lading is confirmed.

When does the buyer receive a temporary permit?

Once the bill of lading is confirmed by KeySavvy, the buyer's dashboard will allow them to request a temporary permit. We recommend buyers wait until they know the vehicle is being delivered soon before requesting the temporary permit. The temporary permit is provided to buyers on their dashboard during business hours Monday to Saturday, unless the buyer is in MN or the seller's plates stay on the vehicle. They will be able to print the temporary permit to display on the back of the vehicle.

Can I change from shipping the vehicle to a local pick up?

Yes! If a buyer decides to pick up the vehicle directly from the seller instead of having it shipped, just let us know and we can update the account for you.
