How do I get a temporary license plate?

We can email you a temporary permit on the day your vehicle is picked up.

A temporary plate (a.k.a. temporary permit or temporary registration) allows you to drive your new vehicle before registering it at your local DMV. If we've issued your temporary plate, you'll receive an email notifying you that it's available for download alongside your other transaction documents. Print the permit and tape it in your back window. If your seller is located in CA, MN, or HI, you can use your seller's license plates, if they haven't expired.

When should I receive my temporary plate?

You'll receive your temporary plate shortly after you pick up the vehicle from the seller. If your vehicle is being shipped, send us a message when it is delivered and we can create your temporary plate. Contact us if you need your temporary plate sooner or if you haven't received it yet.
