On-Demand Keyword Updates (Manual Refreshes)

Learn how manual keyword refreshes work and when to trigger on-demand ranking updates.

Updated this week

What it is

On-demand updates allow you to manually refresh keyword rankings instantly, outside of the automatic update schedule.

When to use on-demand updates

Use manual refreshes when:

  • You’ve deployed SEO changes and want immediate confirmation

  • You’re preparing a report or live demo

  • You want to validate unexpected ranking movement

How it works

  • You select keywords and trigger a refresh

  • Keyword.com performs a new Google search for each keyword

  • Results typically return within a few seconds for a keyword, but can increase, depending on number of keywords you select to update

  • The new rank overrides the previously stored value

Tracking depth

  • By default, on-demand updates return Top 20 results

  • On days where Top 100 scans run, deeper results will be available

  • Full Top 100 on every refresh requires an upgrade to SERP100 package

Refresh limits

  • Refresh limits depend on your plan.

    For example,

    • 2,000 keyword package with daily updates allows 2,000 free individual keyword refreshes per day

    • 2,000 keyword package with weekly updates allows 2,000 free individual keyword refreshes per week

  • Refreshing many keywords at once may take longer due to queueing

With on-demand refresh, you can update your keywords whenever you need, within your package limits.

You can top up your on demand updates for a small fee by clicking Reset on demand refresh limit in the Project Sidebar.

This will charge your credit card immediately and reset the refresh counter until the next day or week, depending on your package type.

Best practices

  • Use on-demand refreshes when you need immediate confirmation (after changes, before reporting, or when investigating movement).

  • Refresh keywords in smaller batches for faster processing.

  • Remember: on-demand refreshes return Top 20 results by default unless you have full Top 100 tracking enabled.

  • Use Spyglass to validate the exact SERP snapshot if results look unexpected.

  • Monitor your refresh usage to stay within your plan limits.
