We use Google Analytics as one of our tracking methods, in addition to platform-specific tracking methods, to help us track and gather information about any referred pledges made to your campaign. Google Analytics also allows us detect self-referrals (when a backer uses their own affiliate link to pledge), and gives you the option of allowing or automatically voiding any commissions earned on self-referred pledges. It also allows us to detect and void commissions on failed pledges once your campaign ends.

What's a UA code?
A UA code is a series of numbers that Google Analytics generates once you create an account with them. It is sometimes known as the Google Tracking Code. The code starts with "UA-" then is followed by a series of numbers (ex. UA-123456-7).


In this article, you will find information on the following:


Google Analytics Account

If you already have a Google Analytics Account and UA code, skip to the next section that covers adding your UA code to your campaign page.

If you do not have a Google Analytics account, this section is for you! Follow the steps below to create an account:

1.) Click here to go to Google Analytics.

Note: If you have a Google account, and are not signed in, click Sign in. If you do not have a Google account, click Create an account.


2.) Fill in your information E.g. Account Name, Website Name, Website URL etc.

Once your Analytics account is created, you will be given a Tracking ID which is your UA code. Here's an example:


3.) Before adding your UA code to your campaign page, you will need to edit your 'eCommerce Settings' to enable Ecommerce (turn ON) and disable Enhanced Ecommerce Reporting (turn OFF). These settings allow conversions to be tracked.


Now you're all set to add your Google Analytics UA code to your campaign page!


Adding Google Analytics to Kickstarter

If you are launching a Kickstarter campaign, you need to add your Google Analytics tracking code to your Kickstarter page so Kickbooster can connect to it and start tracking referrals. 


If you're still setting up your project, you can add your Google Analytics tracking code at the bottom of the Promotion tab:


If you’ve already launched your project, you can enter your Google Analytics UA code through your creator dashboard.

Adding Google Analytics to Indiegogo

If you are launching an Indiegogo campaign, you need to add your Google Analytics tracking code to your Indiegogo page so Kickbooster can connect to it and start tracking referrals. 


To add your Google Analytics tracking code to your Indiegogo page, go to your Edit page and go to 'Extras':

Connecting Kickbooster to Google Analytics

If your Google Analytics UA code has been successfully added to your campaign page, Kickbooster will detect your UA code and will display in your settings page.

To connect Kickbooster to your UA code, click 'Connect Now'.

You will then be prompted to log into your Google Account and allow Kickbooster access to your Google Analytics.

Note: Ensure that you are logging into the same Google Account associated with your Google Analytics account with the corresponding UA code. Logging into the incorrect account will not allow you to connect.

If done correctly, your settings page will indicate that Kickbooster is successfully connected to your Google Analytics.


Troubleshooting Common Errors

1) Issue: I added my Google Analytics UA code on my campaign page, but the UA code is not showing up in Kickbooster. How do I connect Kickbooster to my UA code?


Solution: If you are running a Kickstarter campaign, something to keep in mind is that Kickbooster is unable to detect your UA code if your campaign is still in draft (not live). You will need to wait until your Kickstarter campaign is live in order to complete this step.

2) Issue: When I log into my Google email account, I get the error message "Google Analytics authorization failed, the Analytics account did not contact the UA code associated with your campaign"

Solution: This error means that the Google email account that you are logging into doesn't have authorization to the Google Analytics account associated with the UA code that you're trying to connect us to. The authorized Google email account will need to be logged into to complete this step.

3) Issue: When I log into my Google email account, I get the error message "Google Analytics Ecommerce Settings are not configured properly. Ecommerce must be ON and Enhanced Ecommerce must be OFF".

Solution: In order for our tracking to work with Google Analytics, the Ecommerce settings of your UA code must be ON and Enhanced must be OFF in Google Analytics. This error simply means that the configuration is not set in your Google Analytics. Refer to Step 3 above to complete this step.


4) Issue: I'm trying to save my Ecommerce settings in Google Analytics, but it's giving me the error 'One of more fields contain invalid data. Please fix and submit again' and i'm unable to save.

Solution: This issue is likely due to the website URL field in the basic settings of your Google Analytics having invalid characters. If you entered your entire campaign URL link, chances are it has invalid characters.

To fix this issue, change the website URL link to only include Kickstarter or Indiegogo's home page website I.e. www.kickstarter.com or www.indiegogo.com. Once you've updated the website URL link, you can then go back to your Ecommerce settings and try saving the configuration again. Please keep in mind that the entered website URL link should not affect your tracking.
