Crowdfunding Only: This article explains referral tracking for Kickstarter, Indiegogo, and Gamefound programs.
If you've shared your referral link and expected to see a referral on your dashboard, this article explains how crowdfunding referrals are tracked, why a referral may not appear, and what steps you can take if you believe you're missing a commission.
For Kickstarter and Indiegogo referral programs, Kickbooster does not track referrals independently. Instead, we rely on each crowdfunding platform's official referral tracking system and simply display the referral data they report to us.
How crowdfunding referrals are tracked
When someone clicks your Kickbooster referral link, they are redirected to the crowdfunding campaign with a unique referral tag attached to the URL.
If that backer completes their pledge and the crowdfunding platform attributes the pledge to your referral tag, the referral is then reported to Kickbooster and will appear on your dashboard.
Because of this, your dashboard will always reflect the referral attribution provided by Kickstarter or Indiegogo.
Why a referral may not appear
There are several reasons why a pledge may not be attributed to your referral tag, including:
The backer visited the campaign through another referral link before pledging.
The backer returned to the campaign later using a different device or browser.
Browser cookies or tracking data were cleared or blocked.
The backer used private/incognito browsing.
The referral tag was lost during the browsing session.
The crowdfunding platform attributed the pledge to another referral source based on its own tracking rules.
The backer did not complete their pledge after clicking your link.
Since attribution is determined by the crowdfunding platform, Kickbooster cannot manually add or change referrals that were not reported by Kickstarter or Indiegogo.
Can Kickbooster investigate missing referrals?
We're happy to confirm whether a referral was reported to us, but we cannot override or modify the attribution provided by the crowdfunding platform.
If a referral does not appear on your dashboard, it means the platform did not attribute that pledge to your referral tag.
What should I do if I believe I'm missing a commission?
If you believe you should have received credit for a referral, we recommend reaching out directly to the program owner.
Many program owners value their affiliates and may choose to compensate you outside of Kickbooster if they can independently verify that you were responsible for referring the backer.
Any manual compensation would be at the discretion of the program owner, as Kickbooster can only process commissions for referrals officially attributed by the crowdfunding platform.
If you have any questions about a specific referral, feel free to contact our support team at team@kickbooster.me and we'll be happy to confirm whether the referral was reported to us.
