Understanding Read-only vs. Bi-Directional Integrations in Kintsugi

This article explains the difference between Read-only and Bi-Directional integrations for syncing sales tax data between platforms

Updated over a week ago

Read-only Integration (Restricted Access)

Read-only integrations provide limited access, allowing data synchronization from your connected platform while restricting any modifications or adjustments to sales tax information on invoices. This means that:

  • Users must manually update their tax settings within the integrated platform (e.g., Shopify, QuickBooks, etc.).

  • It is the customer’s responsibility to ensure tax collection settings are properly configured within the integration.

Important: Since we do not modify tax settings for Read-only integrations, you must:

  • Confirm that your integrated platform (e.g., Shopify) is set up to collect sales tax in the correct jurisdictions.

  • Ensure your products are properly categorized within your integration to align with our calculated tax amount.

  • Regularly review your tax collection settings to avoid discrepancies between Collected Tax and Calculated Tax.

Bi-Directional Integrations (Read and Write Access)

Bi-Directional Integrations have both read and write access, meaning our platform can modify tax details on invoices from the integrated system. This includes:

    • The ability to update or override sales tax amounts.

    • Ensuring that calculated tax matches the collected tax within the integration.

    • Reducing the need for manual tax adjustments by the customer.
