Kintsugi makes managing your European Union (EU) VAT (Value Added Tax) obligations simple and straightforward. This guide will walk you through the key features of our EU jurisdiction Nexus’ interface.
The Nexus tab is where you monitor your exposure and register in the appropriate EU jurisdictions.
Physical Nexus:
If you have physical nexus in multiple jurisdictions, you can register for each country individually.
An info icon appears in the "Tax Liability" column. Hovering on it shows a message like "Tax liability calculation in progress."
Economic Nexus:
If your business meets economic nexus in only one EU country, the platform guides you to register there.
If a business has economic nexus in more than one EU country, only the country prioritized for VAT registration (e.g., Ireland) will display an active "Register" button. Other jurisdictions will show a disabled button with a message indicating where the business should register. (e.g. “Please register under Ireland jurisdiction.”
When you click Register (for example under Ireland), a modal will appear to complete the OSS registration. Once saved, all eligible jurisdictions will be registered under the EU OSS framework.
Economic & Physical Nexus:
The business already has an economic nexus; once it meets physical nexus requirements, there is a “Registration option” under the Kebab menu.
Click the kebab menu (three dots) next to that jurisdiction.
Select Register to initiate the process for that specific country.
Summary
Kintsugi's EU jurisdiction UI is built to simplify tax and registration with clear visual tools and guided workflows. Whether you're dealing with economic or physical nexus, the platform helps you remain compliant across the EU with minimal effort.
