Kitsplit was designed to make the rental process easier for both the renter and the owner. We have structured our site search results to help the renter find and book gear as quickly as possible. To achieve this, the results of each search are prioritized based on gear owners who do the following:

  1. List as much of your gear as possible.
  2. Respond to rental requests immediately and accept as many as possible
  3. Get 5 star ratings from renters by keeping your gear clean and organized, and being prompt and professional during conversations and handoff
  4. Commit. Never cancel a rental once you’ve accepted.
  5. Build listings with detailed information and beautiful original photographs
  6. Complete your profile with useful information
  7. Include a link to your KitSplit rental shop on your personal or professional website and/or social media profiles

Now let’s break each of these down to understand how these actions directly influence the experience of your clients, the Kitsplit members looking to rent equipment.

List as much of your gear as possible
The more listings you have, the more searches your profile will come up in. Also, many of our users don't want to travel to multiple places to pickup all of their production gear. Once one item is added to a user's shopping cart, they are then searching through everything else you own to see if they can fulfill more of their list from you.

Respond to rental requests immediately and accept as many as possible

Gear Owners who respond quickly to renters provide the best experience and get more rentals.  So make sure you have your cell phone listed on your account and have activated SMS messaging. You will get a text message immediately when someone is requesting to rent from you, so you’ll never miss a request.  Even if the gear is unavailable, or if you need more time to check, our renters are drawn to the owners who communicate the best.

Additionally, Gear Owners who say “YES!” most often reduce the overall time a renter spends looking for equipment. So as a result they get floated to the top of search results. This gives greater overall success for our renters and drives repeat business for the most active Gear Owners.

Get 5 star ratings from renters by keeping your gear clean and organized, being prompt and professional during conversations and handoffs

Good reviews help to build your professional reputation as a gear owner and an operator. Reviews are also the only public indicator of how many times you’ve supplied equipment to a Kitsplit Member. Past rentals pop up everytime a member logs in and hasn’t finished a review. But a note from you that it will help you out will often encourage the renter to actually do it. Feel free to send the message through your last conversation with them, it will send them a text or email.

Rentals are typically reviewed on 3 main areas: communication, timeliness, and gear quality. If your gear is maintained in top condition, you communicate well in pickup and dropoff arrangements and you show up on time, you’ll get 5 stars every time.

Commit. Never cancel a rental once you’ve accepted.

If you agree to a job, commit to the job. Remember, these are YOUR CLIENTS, and your professional reputation will be affected by how you manage the rental. 35% of all KitSplit rentals result in a repeat rental between the Renter and that Gear Owner.  If you have a gear conflict, call our customer service team and we can help source additional gear for you so you can keep your relationship AND still keep your other work.

Build listings with detailed information and beautiful original photographs

The data is in. Listings with original photos are earning 2.4x as much as those with stock images. Even more, when the primary image displays the entire contents of the kit, those listings get the most views.

Complete your profile with useful information

This one is pretty simple. Your profile picture should be a high quality image, and should showcase your approachability and your experience, in that order. It’s great that you’ve shot on the Millenium XL, it’s better than I can see your eyes and your smile.

Also make sure there is a video or link to your work, either on your website, vimeo, and/or IMDB. Building the KitSplit profile is part of building your professional reputation as an expert in the field. When people google your name your KitSplit profile will likely show up- so make it impressive.

Include a link to your KitSplit rental shop on your website and/or social media profiles

The more you link back to your KitSpit listings and profile the more visibility you’ll get on KitSplit and off the platform.  If you have a professional website add it to your Kitsplit profile, AND add your KitSplit profile link on your other sites (yourname.com, Facebook, ProductionHUB, etc). Also, connect directly to your listing pages whenever you’re discussing specific items on user forums and in tweets. This strategy is an excellent way to establish yourself as an expert in the field, with an impressive inventory of gear. Linking back to your KitSplit gear will take an interested renter that much closer in the booking process.
