Knak builder makes use of a coding technique called VML buttons in order to ensure your buttons look great across all the email clients. This technique essentially creates two versions of the button. The first uses a conditional comment to target Outlook desktop clients and uses VML markup in Outlook specific code to style the button.

This is the default button option and it has the following advantages.

  • Great support across all email clients in terms of appearance.

  • Curve on corners is supported across the board.

  • The entire button is clickable on all email clients.

Despite the advantages we have realized that there is one major disadvantage. The Outlook specific code contains a link that won't be tracked by Eloqua. For the most part clicks on your buttons will still be tracked but in the cases where your recipients are opening and clicking on your buttons in Outlook 07/10/11/13 these clicks will be ignored by Eloqua reports.

With this in mind we have created an alternative button option for those who would like to track those clicks. The alternative buttons will still look good and render fairly consistently but there is a trade off. In Outlook 07/10/11/13 the corners of the buttons will always be square and only the link of the email itself will be clickable.

If you wish to switch to our alternative button options please get in touch at support@knak.io.
