Connecting Slack

How to set up slack notifications

Written by John DiLoreto

Create a Slack channel

In your Slack workspace, create a dedicated channel for your Knock2 notifications.
For example: #knock2-visitors.

Connect your Slack workspace

  • In your Knock2 dashboard go to SettingsApp Marketplace, find Slack under Notifications and click Connect Slack. (You can also connect from SettingsSlack.)

  • You’ll be redirected to Slack’s authorization page.

  • Make sure the correct Slack workspace is selected.

  • Choose the Slack channel you created earlier and click Allow.

Once connected, you’ll be redirected back to your Knock2 dashboard, where the new channel is listed on the Slack card.

Configure your channel

Each connected channel has its own settings page. Open it by clicking Configure next to the channel on the Slack card in the App Marketplace, or by clicking the channel in Settings → Slack.

The page is split into four tabs: Notifications, Plays, Message format and Actions. Everything on it saves as you change it, so there is no Save button to look for. The switch in the top right pauses or resumes everything sent to the channel without disconnecting it.

Notifications tab

Choose what Knock2 posts to this channel on its own as visitors are identified:

New contacts identified — a card each time Knock2 identifies a visitor on your site. Turn on Enrich contacts before sending to refresh the person’s details first (1 credit per contact not recently enriched).

New accounts identified — a card each time Knock2 identifies a company visiting your site.

You can also turn on Leads ready to reveal and the Website agent daily summary here. We recommend enabling both identification posts for full visibility, but you can choose what’s most useful for your team.

Apply filters (optional but recommended)

Under each identification switch is an Only send contacts matching (or accounts) dropdown with three kinds of choice:

  • All contacts — no filter; every identified visitor is posted.

  • A saved view from your Contacts or Accounts page, such as Lead Score > 50 or CRM Deal Stage is Discovery. Picking one saves immediately. Its conditions appear underneath, and you can change them right there and click Save view. A saved view is shared, so the page tells you which Plays and other channels also use it before you save.

  • Custom conditions for this channel — rules that belong only to this channel. Build them with the same condition rows you use in Plays (lead score, pages visited, job title and so on). They save on their own once every row is complete.

From then on, only leads matching your filter will trigger standard notifications.

Plays tab

Lists every Play that sends to this channel, with its status and a link to open it. Plays use their own filters and are not affected by the switches on the Notifications tab. So if a channel keeps receiving notifications after you turn off New contacts identified, or receives ones that don't match your filter, check this tab: a Play is posting them. See Using Slack as a Play Output.

Message format and Actions tabs

Message format is where you choose which fields appear in each part of the contact and account cards, with a live preview of each. Actions is where you choose which buttons show under every notification (Qualify, Disqualify, Open Knock2 and more). Both save as you edit and have a Reset to defaults control.

Team members can set up their own

Each team member can connect their own Slack channel with personalized filters if they prefer.

Connecting multiple channels
You can connect Knock2 to multiple Slack channels in the same workspace. To add another channel, open the Slack card in the App Marketplace and choose Add channel from the ⋯ menu, or click Connect Slack in Settings → Slack, then select a different channel in Slack's picker. Once connected, any channel can be chosen as the destination for a play — see Using Slack as a Play Output.
