In the Chemistry subject, we’ve introduced Topic Introduction Notes, which are designed not only to introduce students to new topics but also to assess and activate their prior knowledge. By providing warm-up exercises, quizzes, and key terminology practice, students get a chance to refresh their existing understanding and make connections to what they already know, setting a strong foundation for the topic ahead.
In the "Overview" tab, at the beginning of each topic, students will find two new sections:
Introduction to Core Concepts: This section introduces the essential concepts for the topic and helps students establish their prior knowledge through self-directed activities. It ensures that students have the background they need to grasp new material effectively.
Quiz and Key Terms: This section allows students to test their prior knowledge through exercise questions, supported by summary notes and an interactive exercise focusing on key terms. It’s a great way for students to review and solidify their understanding before diving deeper into the topic.
Although the IB does not technically require students to have prior knowledge before starting the Diploma Programme, this can sometimes present a significant challenge, especially for students who are new to science. The "Topic Introduction Notes" feature aims to bridge this gap and help students transition more smoothly into the content.
