One of the reasons why so many teachers love Kognity is because we generate so much useful data for you. The data then becomes a great way to better understand how the class is progressing, as well as how individual students are performing.

Here are some ideas on how teachers have used Kognity to better identify how they can help individual students. The screenshots come from our demo account - no real students are used in this example!

Premise: Assume that you are teaching Vijaay Sharma in Biology SL and you are worried about his latest results. As you prepare for your 1:1 meeting with the student you review his Kognity performance in Insights.

What does this data tell you? Vijaay has not completed the book assignment in the past week indicated by the grey boxes with the 'open' icon, to the left under '5 Latest Sections' status. You can also see that Vijaay has not submitted the last '5 Latest assignments' (the red circled X icons).

If we take a look at the individual effort Vijaay has been putting into self-studying, we can see that he has engaged in strength tests and battles but none with good results.

Action: In your 1:1 with Vijaay, address this insight by sharing the above view with him. Share your thoughts on his study performance and techniques, recommend that he needs to re-focus, and only spend the next week on the book assignment. For extra support, you can send him a book assignment!

You can also send out a question assignment, with a deadline following the book assignment, so that Vijaay can work on the questions (once he has completed the required book assignment) Make sure to select relevant questions, and don't add too many as this will overwhelm your student!

When Vijaay is working his way through the book and question assignments, he will be given instant feedback on his progress and performance. This will help him to understand how well he is doing and what areas he needs to focus more on!

Follow up: When the week has passed, follow up and re-evaluate Vijaay's performance by selecting 'Previous week' in the drop-down menu as displayed below.

Conclusion: Vijaay completed the assigned book assignment on time! After finishing the book assignment, he submitted the question assignment, and he scored 3/4 questions right!

Should your student fail to complete the assignment on time or continue to receive low scores, you can continue your dialogue with the student, re-send the book assignment and use the question assignment to assess his knowledge further.

Kognity, is of course, not the only source of information on your students' performance. You know them better than the gathered data, but having these numbers available could make your coaching a little easier and the discussion around performance less biased.
