Syncing Kognity assignments with Schoology

Create assignments in Schoology from Kognity

This article provides instructions on automatically creating assignments in Schoology from Kognity, covering both the teacher view and the student view.


This article focuses on the sync between Schoology and Kognity and does not delve into the details of assignment capabilities in Kognity. For more information on assignment capabilities, refer to the following articles:

Enabling the "Send to Schoology" option

To enable the "Send to Schoology" option for your assignments in Kognity, the class must be created using the rostering integration with Schoology.

You can receive automatic updates on Completion and Score (aka Grade Passback) only if your school was rostered via Edlink. If you do not see the "Send to Schoology" option, contact your LMS administrator to set up the integration.

Sending an assignment to Schoology

This section describes how to create an assignment that automatically syncs with your course in Schoology.

Assignments can include various types of tasks for students, such as:

Each student's submission and the corresponding assignment grade will automatically sync with Schoology if the assignment was created with the "Send to Schoology" option.


To create an assignment in Kognity:

  1. Create an assignment in Kognity from the "Assignments" menu or the "Assign to students" option on the right side of each module or lesson in the class overview.

  2. Once you click on the "Assign to students" option, a new menu will appear to the right of the screen. Configure the assignment by entering the title and instructions. Ensure the correct recipients are selected by clicking on "Change recipients". Set the deadline, ensure the "Send to Schoology" feature is enabled, and set the category and points.

  3. The "Title" and "Instructions" will be visible to students in both Schoology and Kognity and can be customized to your preferences and tone of voice.

  4. Under "Change recipients," you can define the list of students who will receive the assignment, selecting either all students in the class or individual students.

  5. After clicking "Send," you will receive a confirmation at the top of the screen.

  6. The assignment will appear in both Kognity and Schoology. In Schoology, it will be located under the "Assignments" category in the "Materials" section of the course. Students will see a link to Kognity in the assignment.

Student view - Completing an assignment

When an assignment created in Kognity is accessed through Schoology, students will see the following:

Clicking on the link to Kognity will take students to a view focused on completing the specific assignment.

After completing the assignment, students can click "Submit result to Schoology" to submit the assignment and sync the results with Schoology.

The "Submit result to Schoology" button will change text and color to indicate that the assignment has been submitted.
