Koinly tax reports

After purchasing a plan, you can download a variety of tax reports containing your crypto activities. This article provides a brief overview of each report and what data they contain.

How to download reports

For detailed instructions how to download the reports, see:

Data included in reports

Each report will be based on transactions that happened within the tax year (or the custom period selected). This means that:

  • The capital gain/loss shown on the "Tax Summary" page and in the reports is the capital gain/loss from disposals that happened within this year only

  • Any loss from the previous tax year that can be carried over is not included in the gain/loss figure shown in the report

  • If you can carry over a loss from previous years, you may need to account for it yourself when filing (though this is usually done automatically by your Tax Office)

  • The calculation of the cost basis of your disposals is still based on your complete transaction history

Available reports

You can check the list of all reports available to you by clicking on the "Pick a report type" dropdown on the Tax Reports page:

Report format

Some of our reports are available in PDF form for quick view/access. Reports provided in PDF format include:

  • Complete tax report

  • IRS report

  • Wallet balances report

  • and other

Most of our reports are provided as CSV - CSV is a file format that can be easily imported to spreadsheet software like Excel or Google Sheets for comprehensive analysis, custom pivot tables, etc.

If you need a report in a different file format:

  • If you need a report in PDF, you can easily convert a CSV to PDF using Google Sheets.

  • If you need a report in XLSX (Excel) format, you can convert a CSV to XLSX using Excel or Google Sheets - but note that it's not needed, CSV is already a spreadsheet file format and can be opened in Excel.

Dual Nationality

To download your reports for more than one country, please purchase the "Dual nationality" add-on via our Plans page. After that, you will be able to download the reports for one more country, after changing it in your Settings.

Good to know:

  • this option is most useful if both countries have the same cost-basis method

  • This add-on is great for you if you are a tax resident of two countries (both of which use the same cost-basis method). For example, if you're a US citizen who needs to file two tax reports

  • If you moved from one country to another, this add-on may not be useful to you as there may be tax and cost-basis implications mid-year.

As always, if in doubt, speak with a tax accountant.
โ€‹

How to use the dual nationality add-on

  1. Download your first report as normal

  2. Go to https://app.koinly.io/p/settings and change your home country and currency

  3. Review your Tax summary/figures and once you confirm their accuracy, you can generate your second report

Reports for custom dates

You can generate reports for any time period - not just a full tax year - as long as your tax plans cover the dates you need. Reports can be generated for shorter periods (monthly or quarterly) or even multiple years. For more information, see:

Reports in other languages

The standard language for our reports is English with the exception of the following countries:

  • Austria

  • France

  • German

  • Italy

  • Spain

The "complete tax report" will be generated in the local language for users with the country setting of Spain, Italy, France, Germany, and Austria.
