This help centre article was written for anyone thinking of applying to become a childminder in the Koru Kids' Home Nursery service

Koru Kids is registered with Ofsted so you don’t have to be.

Koru Kids has been approved by Ofsted as a registered childminder agency.

  • This means that we can register childminders with our agency, rather than you needing to register with Ofsted directly.

  • You’ll do all of your training with Koru Kids, and we’ll make it as clear and easy as possible to become a registered childminder.

Koru Kids assesses you - not Ofsted.

When you’re ready to have your assessment visit, it will be one of our friendly Koru Kids Assessors who come and visit your home to sign you off as a registered childminder.

  • No waiting around for an Ofsted inspector to come to your home - we’ll come as soon as you’re ready at a time that suits you.

  • Our friendly Assessors are here to help. We want you to succeed - we’re not there to trip you up!

  • Our Assessors will provide you with constructive feedback so that you can get off to a great start with your childminding business.

Koru Kids Assessors also carry out your regular assessments.

  • These will happen every year in-person at a time that suits you.

  • We will make it very clear what is expected of you at each assessment, and let you know how you can achieve certain ratings.

Do I get ratings?

Yes!

  • We have aligned our assessment criteria with Ofsted, so you have the chance to be rated Good or Outstanding in your first annual assessment. You don’t get a rating from your first registration visit as we need to assess how you are with children.

  • We’ll make it clear to you throughout your training what you need to do in order to achieve a Good or Outstanding rating.
