This help centre article was written for anyone thinking of applying to become a childminder in the Koru Kids' Home Nursery service

Your hourly rate

  • When you’ve completed your training, we’ll set up your online profile on our website so that we can start promoting you to families to fill your places.

  • Initially, in inner London, we’ll set your hourly rate to £6.50 to kickstart your Home Nursery. We believe this price strikes the optimal balance between reflecting the high quality service you’ll be delivering (thanks to your extensive training) and maintaining great value for money versus the nurseries that most parents will be considering alongside your setting.

  • If the area you live in is particularly affluent and/or you have a large waiting list, we may recommend you increase your price to bring it into line with demand in your area to help you increase your earnings.

  • If you live in an area where the rates are lower, we would recommend you charge 5-10% lower than the average rate and increase this as you become more established.

Your working hours and days

  • You can choose to offer 2 or more days a week Monday-Friday and should be able to offer at least 15 hours of childcare per week to families. Bear in mind that the more hours you can offer between 8am-6pm Monday to Friday, the easier it will be for you to fill your spaces.

  • Most parents are looking for childcare between 8am–6pm, so we’ll set this as your default opening hours in order to help you appeal to as many families as possible. You may find you get requests to open a little earlier or stay open a little later to accommodate people’s longer working hours—it's great if you're able to accommodate these requests if possible because it’s likely to earn you a strong degree of loyalty and a valuable client as not many other settings will be so flexible.

We’re here to help you build a thriving business, so we’ll always recommend what we think is in your best interests—and that's usually what’s best for families too, so it’s a win-win!
