Health declaration check

This ensures that your health is suitable for caring for children.

  • We email you a health declaration form to complete as soon as you pass our initial application form.

  • Click here to learn more about completing your health declaration form.

Background checks

For an in-depth article on all your forms and how to fill them out, please click here.

Reference checks

We do two references for you.

  • We need to obtain 2 references, one from your current or most recent manager or employer from within the past 5 years and from someone who has seen you around children.

  • Click here to find out more about our reference checks.

Local authority checks

Local Authorities carry out social services checks on you.

  • We will contact all local authorities that you have lived in for the past 5 years. They will look through any social services history you may have and pass on relevant information to us.

  • We will decide whether or not your history with social services is a concern for your role as a childminder.

If you have lived outside of the UK in the past 5 years, we will need you to obtain a good conduct letter from the relevant Embassy (or Embassies).

Known to Ofsted check

We contact Ofsted to find out if you have any previous registrations with them.

  • If you have had any cancelled registrations in the past, we will need to speak with you about this to find out more.

  • A previous cancelled registration will not be an immediate rejection, but we will need further details to decide whether it is a concern for your role as a childminder.

Other agency checks

We contact any childminder agencies you have previously worked with.

  • Other childminder agencies will let us know if they have any cause for concern for you becoming a registered childminder with Koru Kids.

Right to work check

We check that you have the right to work in the UK.

  • We do this by looking at valid right to work documents, such as passports and share codes.

Identity check

We check that you are who you say you are.

  • We do this by looking at valid identity documents, such as passports or driving licenses.

  • You will be sent our Identity Documents form to complete, where you can submit your identity documents.

Your consent

The detailed application form, which you complete after your intro call, will collect all the relevant information and documents that we need to carry out these checks.

  • As part of the detailed application form, you will be asked to sign a consent form to allow Koru Kids to carry out these checks on your behalf.

What happens next

If all of your background checks are successful and you have completed our pre-registration training, it’s then time to book your pre-registration assessment visit.

  • One of our Koru Kids Advisors will be in touch over the phone to book this in with you at a time that suits.
