It’s up to you how much time you take off work following the birth of your child.
As a self employed contractor you may be eligible for statutory maternity/paternity pay from the DWP - you can check that here. Let us know if you need any information to evidence your income to help with your application.
We ask that you give your families and Koru Kids as much notice as possible once you know your expected due date - this allows us to try and find alternative settings for these families once you go on leave. You need to give at least three months’ notice.
Many childminders decide to return to work when their maternity pay comes to an end, but it’s up to you. When you decide to come back to work, please let us know as soon as you can so we can start to advertise your spaces again on our website.
Remember that caring for your new baby whilst working as a childminder will impact on your ratios and how many paid children you can take.
