What is the Koru Kids early educators community

  • The Koru Kids childminder community is a place for our prospective and registered childminders to get together, form close relationships, share achievements, ideas, and encouragement.

  • We know that everything is better when shared - whether it’s an achievement or a challenge - and we want you to have a place to speak about everything with like-minded people that understand the struggles and joys you’re going through.

  • The centre of our community is the Koru Kids Early Educators Facebook group, but we also want to keep the community going outside of Facebook, with training and events.

Our community pillars

These are the core principles that we used to build our community.

  • 📚 There’s no such thing as a stupid question. Are you struggling with part of the registration process? Unsure of the best way to do something? We want you to share all your questions and doubts with us and your fellow childminders. Never be afraid to ask.

  • 💁 Help where you can. If you think your answer can help someone, don’t be afraid to share. We all have different approaches to the same problem, and a range of perspectives is always useful. Even if other people have already answered a question, don’t hesitate to share your ideas too, they might be exactly what someone is looking for.

  • 🤝 Make friends. Childminding can feel lonely at times, especially if the people in your life don’t get nearly as excited as you about puddlesuits and mud kitchens. Most of all, we want this to be a place for you to meet like-minded people and make this incredible journey even more special. Talk to each other, get to know your fellow childminders and arrange to meet for a coffee or a play date.

  • 💡 Sharing is caring. Did you discover a fantastic spot for outdoor adventures? Did you finally master a recipe you’ve been experimenting with? Did you buy a new book that all the children are excited about? We encourage you to share all this, and more. It will be inspirational and helpful for your fellow childminders - and you might win our ‘best of the month’ prizes.

  • 🎉 Celebrate good times. We are incredibly proud of all our childminder’s achievements, and we want to celebrate them with you! Whether you’ve completed your registration process, hired an assistant, or had a wonderful lunchtime where the children loved their meal and none of them spilled food on their shirt (we know, this is a big one!) we want you to share the news with everyone. It’s a great way to mark your accomplishments and motivate others - and we might even send you some celebratory gifts!

How do I access the Facebook group?

You will receive an invitation to join our Koru Kids Early Educators Facebook group once you complete the first part of your application.

It’s a closed group, this is because we want it to be a safe space for everyone to share their journey as a childminder.

  • To join the Facebook group you will need a Facebook account.

    • If you don’t have a Facebook account, you can create one for free.

      • Don’t worry, you won’t need to share your personal information if you don’t want to.

The community outside of the Facebook group

  • During your training, you will have a chance to meet some of the other applicants and get to know each other.

    • You will meet them during our training sessions on Zoom and your in-person Outdoor learning training

    • Think of them as your classmates.

      • They are going through the application process at the same time as you, so they’re the best people to arrange studying sessions, or swap notes with.

  • We’d love to introduce you to other Koru Kids childminders in your area.

    • You can arrange to meet them in person for playdates or a simple coffee and a chat.

    • They are the best people to talk to if you want to discover new activities and green spaces in your neighbourhood.

  • Periodically, we will arrange events for our childminders.

    • These might be virtual or in person.

    • They’ll be a great opportunity to learn new skills and meet your fellow childminders in an informal and fun environment.

    • If you’d like to get involved with arranging events for your fellow childminders, we’d love to hear from you! Just drop us an email at earlyeducators@korukids.co.uk.
