How we reference at Koru Kids
All Koru Kids nannies have passed our referencing standards. By collecting prospective references before listing a potential nanny, we’re giving you assurance when you’re searching our platform and saving you valuable time at the job offer stage. We check at least two references for all candidates. Our referencing specifically asks about skills and qualities that are relevant for childcare roles. After successfully placing thousands of nannies with families, we know what questions are important to ask.
Who can provide a reference
Clearly, nannies cannot provide references for themselves – we check this and reject any candidate found doing so.
References cannot be provided by partners, family members, extended family members, or other Koru Kids nannies (although we occasionally make an exception to that last one).
While we do accept character references, we will always take at least one “formal” reference, e.g. a professional reference or, for nannies entering the job market, an academic reference. Where a referee has worked with the candidate we confirm details about their employment, too.
We always check if at least one referee has seen the candidate around children. We ask some additional questions about the candidate’s childcare experience, depending on the child’s age.
Referees explicitly promise to answer our questions truthfully and accurately (to the best of their knowledge). If a reference has been written by AI (which we check!), it is rejected.
How to see a nanny’s references
References are available on nannies profile pages under the Vetting tab. (If they aren’t, don’t worry. Just contact care@korukids.co.uk to get a copy.)
Just to note: We don't have permission to share the referees' contact details. If you’d like to speak to them directly, it's best to have a chat with the nanny to see if they can put you in touch with them.
